The ViewLondon Review
Nightclubs situated underneath hotels sometimes feel altogether transient - a place for tourists to be happily ripped-off without the added insult of getting lost in Soho. My Place is no such club. The clientele is distinctly British, local, and broadly intent on spending the whole night here, rather than merely stumbling across the place by chance. Conveniently situated a minute's walk away from Earls Court tube station, this is a smart, unpretentious nightspot.
The Venue
Once you have navigated your descent down the narrow staircase, and given your jacket into the cloakroom (which is, weirdly on a lower level - the basement of the basement), the main room of club appears as a sprawling entity. This club feels like there should be hidden away seating areas, little nooks and crannies of adventure - or at least a pole. But there isn't. There is a separate VIP room but, depending on the night, it may or may not be very busy. The space has lots of potential. More seating areas would create a less hanging-at-the-bar centric vibe, and the bar itself is impressive and well maintained. My Place does exude a certain plush sensibility.
The Atmosphere
Those in their early twenties are the most prevalent age group at My Club. There’s a healthy amount of girls in attendance and this gives the guys a fighting chance of getting lucky. The atmosphere is far from cosmopolitan, but there is a genuine party atmosphere and the funky house music fits the venue’s brief perfectly. The bar staff are female and attractive which is - no doubt - a thoroughly well thought out policy.
The Drink
Becks, Grolsch, Stella and Bud are all available in bottle form as well as a wide range of spirits and a decent wine list, which includes a good producer of Pinot Grigio at a very reasonable £17 a bottle. Most people stick to the ever-reliable spirit and mixer combo. Both vodka and Coke and gin and tonic are not too expensive, so you can't really go wrong.
The Last Word
My Place isn't trying to be anything other than what it is: a smart, unpretentious club, playing house music to fresh-faced West Londoners.
