The ViewLondon Review
Situated deep beneath the Trocadero centre, the flagship branch of the nationwide Platinum Lace chain in Piccadilly Circus offers lap dancing and other adult entertainment in opulent, decadent surroundings. Oh, and Snoop Dogg’s a fan.
The Venue
Darkly lit and mysterious, with a myriad of private booths and side rooms for customers in need of some discretion, including one party room with its own Playstation, PA system and room for about 20 people. You enter the club via the well lit bar area, which overlooks the much more darkly lit main room. There’s a small pole dancing area at either end of the room, with most sitting around tables in deep, comfy armchairs.
The Atmosphere
Obviously, customers are mainly but not exclusively male - it’s not actually that unusual to see women heading off for a private lapdance either. One of the club’s chief selling points is the sheer number of dancers, seemingly of every conceivable nationality. The bashful needn’t worry, as they’ll approach you, and although they will do their best to persuade you to part with some cash, you needn’t be embarrassed about saying no.
There’s a steady stream of dancers performing in skimpy thongs on the poles to the standard strip club soundtrack of R&B and hip-hop. But the real entertainment happens in the row of small booths at the rear of the room, where a £20 chip gets you a full striptease and some very intimate interaction, or it's £40 if you fancy the same from two women at once. There are also options to spend longer with a dancer in a private room.
The Drink
As with most gentlemen’s clubs, there’s a bit of a premium to pay but with Peroni, Corona, Heineken and Budweiser all priced at £5 per bottle, it‘s not compulsory to go overboard. The champagne cocktails are popular, including their signature Platinum Love Potion and Lolly Water (£12 each), or bellinis (£10 each). Champagnes range from Tsarine Brut at £70 per bottle, up to Dom Perignon (£225), Louis Roederer Cristal (£350) and the Armand de Brignac Vintage (£550 or £695 for the rose). There’s also a decent selection of wines, from £25 a bottle upwards, and spirits by the bottle as well as by measure, including rarities like Jack Daniels Single Barrel or Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old (each £250 per bottle).
The Last Word
It’s hard not to love such luxurious surroundings and the endless supply of female company, but despite its prime location the prices don’t take the proverbial.
