I went to PUNK last Friday for my first time and it was a great experience! The staff was very friendly from the bartenders to the bouncers. I got there before 11 and was with a group of all females so we got complimentary entry. The music was great, everyone was dancing the entire night and the crowd was fun and energetic. We stayed until 3 and danced the whole time. I would recommend PUNK to anyone who wants a sophisticated but fun nightclub and enjoys dancing as much as I do! I will definitely go back.
Great night at Punk on Friday, great DJ and none of the normal idiots you get in clubs these days! Will def be back
I had a great experience at PUNK. I got there on a Saturday night before 11 pm so me and my mates got in for free! The music was great, they played really fun songs to dance to. The staff was friendly and the drinks were strong. I'm planning on going back soon!
Punk Saturdays are the best night in London by a long way. The best crowd, and the best DJ's.
You need to go to this night!
Guys what club are you talking about, I've been here a few times and it's at best average, five stars? Your taking the piss. Decent crowd, decent music but that's it. Take it from the clubhopper I never lie.
Saturdays are the best night in London Fact!
What a night! By far the best crowd I've seen in a London Club! everyone came to party!
They also had Ollie Humphreys Djing who i recognised from Maddox! he's amazing!
Drink prices were ok, we bought a table which was on the dance floor, great service, and a great atmosphere! This is going to be my new sat night every week. Honestly if you have never been! you have to go!
Went to this club last night and received really bad treatment. We were meeting up with friends for a hen party. We had booked a table which we sat at for a couple of hours. Then they decided that it wasn't our table and they insisted we moved. When we refused they used underhand tactics to get us to move. Eventually they accepted that they had made a mistake and not reserved us a table so they chucked another group off a table so we could sit down! This club is also a rip off. You pay a large amount per head to get a table which is supposed to include waiter service but as the night went on this became non-existent. On top of that they insist on you agreeing a 'minimum spend' on drinks of a large amount. They behave like a flash glamorous place but in fact it is small poorly decorated and expensive. There was a queue twenty-deep for the ladies all through the night, the music was awful and some of the staff were rude and unhelpful. I would not go to this club again.
Great party last week! Good music and drinks.
I wasn't happy when i arrived on friday evening for my birthday after having organised with Charlotte my guestlist. My party of 10 were told that we would only be allowed in if we got a table with a minimum spend of £650 which i said was unacceptable as not all of us drank. i was then told by the lady at the door that "this isn't a free night you know" when i told her that a few of us were muslim and didn't drink she said its at the managements discretion and we weren't to be accepted unless we got a table.
Punk would think twice before advertising on their website that " This is NOT a venue that charges extortionate drink prices, denies you at the door because of your trainers and has posers propping up the bar. Punk ushers in a more casual, hip policy that rebels against the establishment and is all about good times, dancing and music that puts a smile on your face"
Well we were all dressed to impress and so I don't see why this happened. In the end we went to Alto where we all happily paid £20 to gain entrance and some of my friends got a table for £200 and others joined afterwards so my birthday wasn't ruined but I am shocked with your member of staff's response "that this isn't a free night out you know!"
I have complained to the club as i feel this is border line racist as you cant deny entrance to someone as they dont drink!!
Loved punk! Great night, great staff, great music - drinks are a bit pricey but standard for west end and not as bad as other places!
Wow, why did I not know about this club!? I went on Friday and had the best time! DJ Fredelux was there, he is amazing! This is like Shoreditch but in the west end. I'll defo be coming back here!
Thanks for a great great night!
I am a student at a central London University. We were promised free entrance and to be on the guest list after our Graduation ball at a West-End hotel. Turned up at 1am and told there was no guest list. The door people laughed at us and said we were over-dressed anyway. Really really poor attitude and hope people post enough reviews to show the club and their arrogance for what it is.
Went to Punk last Saturday, as they had a Fuel girls performances and it was hot and sexy. They really got the crowd going, I have to say men definitely loved it. I remember coming to Punk years ago and now it looks really chick, with amazing atmosphere. One of my girlfriends had table reserved, service was amazing, any spillage was cleaned straight away and little shots on arrival were so so tasty and great spice up at the beginning. Really good night Punk! Never expected it to be to be honest. Will definitely come back for those amazing Malibu shots :))
DO NOT GO. Despite reserving and paying a deposit for tables we were turned away by the doorman (who even tried to claim he was a manager) claiming that we should have girls in our party and saying it was 'club policy' despite there being nothing stated in the terms and conditions on the confirmation email I received in advance from the manager. Sheer arrogance and judging from the queue, full of wannabes who love themselves. In the end we had a great night in a place down the road-no thanks to Punk.
Punk is THE BEST Saturday night in London! So nice to have a club willing to break the rules and do something original. Just had a great Re Fit too! i heard that there is a new manager there! he is doing something right! I have been to every westend club over the years, This reminds me of how the west end used to be! VERY COOL!
Went to Punk last Saturday and had amazing night. It was friend's birthday who had a table in the venue. Service was really good, friendly atmosphere and dj had the crowd going. Waiters were really kind ensuring that we have a an unforgettable time. I have to say that last review is really horrible as we had a really good time and most importantly that Birthday Girl enjoyed her Birthday to the full! Thanks Punk. We will be back!
This place HAS got to be the worst place in the world!!!If I could rate it nothing I would!!!I went to punk on a Friday night for a mates birthday, who had booked out the VIP area. I paid £5 to get in, this was around 7ish! On this particular night it was rock-aoke and it was fun! Basically come 10 pm the bouncers and some dude told us that there was going to be a private party and that everyone had to leave to VIP area AND VENUE! some of my mates had just literally paid to get in but were forced to leave too. We had no refund. We treated absolutely awful. Friend was really upset on her birthday.
A nice little venue in the center of london, however their drinks prices are just astronomical, and it is even more disgusting by the fact that on their own website they specifically state "This is NOT a venue that charges extortionate drink prices". £4 for a shot, £5 for a beer, £3 for a soda water make it more expensive than some of the major clubs in city (such as Ministry). Furthermore there is a 12.5% service charge on top if you use your card!! Thanks, but no thanks
Punk is the ultimate place to go on a thursday night. It has "i Got F*ked at Your Mums House" party on Thursday nights which is the most amazing time you can possibly have on a Thursday night, honestly. I really like the staff too, the Italian cloakroom guy is pretty nice. The drinks are good. The price are not the cheapest of course, but the more prices get cheaper the more weirder the place gets. I think the queue outside is understandable since it's not the biggest nightclub in London, but seriously I think it's worth the wait. I was never let down on a Thursday night!
I did not even get inside the club. I had confirmed previously via e-mail with PUNK that me and my two friends who where travelling down from Manchester would be on the guest list. I arrive and we're not on the guest list. So big embarrassment from the start. Then the door staff proceed to mock our accents and be incredibly rude to us while we try and find the e-mail confirmation. So in the end, we decided to go elsewhere.
Punk was a HUGE letdown. I had expected a great night due to the reviews online and the website, which made the place look amazing. How wrong I was! The door staff and cloakroom dude were spectacularly rude, as was the barman who chose to ignore me (yes I'm short, but he could clearly see me) ... The place was full of 30+ suits rather than the younger clientele I'd expected, so I felt rather out of place (late teens). It was also really small and cramped.
Punk Soho Street is average. We paid £20 to get in after 12pm and annoyingly just as we paid and walked down the stairs a stream of people walked out the club. Their reason for exit was obvious, its such an average club and the the vibe was flat, drinks just as expensive as anywhere else.
Gone are the days for paying for what you get, clubs now just ask for £20 at the door so when you turn around and walk out they've still made money!
Loo's were poor and very small - please get rid of the Bog troll selling lolly pops and give me some space to wash my hands!!
On the Sat night we went Music was good towards the end but DJ kept leaving the booth to chat up girls so god know how much mixing he was doing, pre-made mix tape me thinks!
average average average. Make it £10 entry or half price on guest list and i may be back...
Really don't agree with a lot of the bad reviews on here
i went on Saturday night for my birthday with a couple of friends and it was great
we had to queue but not for long at all and the queue moved fast
doormen and lady on the door were all lovely and the bar staff were lovely too. coat-check man was a little bit hostile but nothing major
shots were 5 pounds but this is London and for such a different club its worth it i think
music was great.
they played stuff like eye of the tiger and living on a prayer through to modern top of the charts stuff- great for if your friends have different music tastes and you don't just want a monotonous drone you cant sing along too.
I was glad to find there was lots of seating that was unreserved and the people there all seemed nice, young people (no creepy old men lurking about)
toilets weren't amazing but i didn't go there for them so no problem.
personally i really enjoyed it, i had a great time and a good birthday- amazing atmosphere and would definitely go again
Love the place. Come here on Thursdays a lot. Seems to be one of the only places in the west end that has the balls to do something a little different. Staff are really fun and I never really thought the drinks were too bad either so i'm surprised to see these previous review.
Best dam Mojito I've ever had! Don't remember much else other than having a great time and being served by a really friendly waiter. I would highly recommend giving this place a try if you're looking for something a little bit different and fun.
No sure what all the fuss is about. I had a really good time here. Staff seemed fine to me (door, bar and even the manager said hi). Prices were a little more than I pay at my local pub or a bar but still A lot cheaper than some other clubs i've been to in the west end (been to a few that have charged up to £14 for a spirit and coke!). Music was so much fun too. Defo coming back!
On Saturday night my friends and I went to Punk for a joint 24th birthday. We arrived after 11 p.m. and queued for about 30 minutes before paying £15 to get in. We did put our names on the guest list but were told that this does not make a difference and you have to queue as normal so if you are planning on going there I would not bother with it. Once we were inside we went straight to the bar to order some drinks. We ordered two beers and as we looked that the cocktail menu to choose a drink we were told that we took too long to order and the barman just walked off so we waited another 20 minutes before we were served.
On their website Punk claims that ‘This is NOT a venue that charges extortionate drink prices’ unlike all other West End clubs however the cocktails are £9.70 which I do not consider to be a reasonable price. They are also served in a Martini glass so you barley get anything for your money. We were Diu bar, on Greek Street, which charged £7.50 for the same drink and the bar staff were much more friendly and polite!
The music in Punk was ok but overall I would not recommend this venue for a group of people who are looking to get tipsy and dance the night away without spending a fortune. I didn’t have high hopes for this club before we went and unfortunately my gut instincts were proved correct. We will definitely not be retuning!
Punk was a real let down. Even thou we hadn't been there b4, I would of thought it would of been alot better. The staff were rude to us, 1 of our friends put us on the guest list so we wouldn't have to queue but we still ended up queuing for ages so the quest-list was pointless, the toilets were minging they needed a good clean and really smelt. The only half descent thing was the music. So I can certainly say that I wont be going back or recommending Punk 2 any1!
I went here last night along with a bunch of Friends, and I regrettably have to report this club gets the massive thumbs down and I agree with many of the low ratings. The drinks were over expensive, with you barely actually getting any drink in your glass, the staffs attitude was not very friendly and especially as this was our 1st visit to Punk, it left a sour taste in our mouths - we will definitely not be coming back here again nor would we recommend it to anybody in the future. Bar-staff were easily the rudest staff of them all, not really acceptable considering the fee to get in and drink prices you would expect good service - obviously not Punks policy. Thankfully we had been to a bar prior to going to Punk which was much much better, a million miles away in comparison on service and atmosphere luckily our evening wasn't ruined by the awful experience that is Punk.
On the positive note about Punk - some decent music was played but that was the only OK thing.
All in all a bad experience and bad 1st impression of Punk.
Me and a group of friends went to this club not knowing quite what to expect after reading various mixed reviews and unfortunately we all would have to agree with the lower ratings. On arrival we were told by one of the bouncers that even though we had been put on the guestlist it basically meant nothing and we had 2 join the back of the queue. It is £15 to get in (which you wouldn't mind paying if you were going to a club that was reasonably priced inside). The lady on the door was quite rude as were the bar staff - we went to order our first rounds of drinks and were having a look at the menu, we ordered beers for our partners and the barman said what else do you want to which we said we are just looking and he just said you are taking too long, took the beers away we had ordered and served others meaning we have to wait another 5/10 mins to get served - a real put off when you have just walked in there. we are not people who moan about bar prices but when the cocktails are £9.50 for almost nothing -you can certainly go elsewhere with a better atmosphere for cheaper prices. we only had 1 drink during our time in there. the club isn't very big so get's very crowded, the toilets were awful.
the music to be fair wasn't too bad and luckily we had drunk at somewhere more reasonable before hand so we were able to enjoy ourselves without having to drink much else in there.
Couldn't believe it when I saw re4ctor's review (near the bottom of the page).
About a month ago a similar thing happened to me and the girls I was with. A really tall guy with blonde hair at the front door told us we couldn't come in. Then he said if I gave him £10 for each person he would let us in.
I told him no and asked to see the manager. He said he was the manager and that he could do what ever he liked. I'm sure he was security and was lying about being the manager as well.
We didn't mind too much as we went to Maddox instead.
If security acts like that it calls in to question how safe we would have been in the club anyway. If someone tried to hurt us would we have had to pay for them to be stopped by security as well. Or maybe they would be the ones doing it, since apparently they can do what ever they like.
Went with a couple of friends to Punk earlier this year and had an absolutely awesome time. It was the bank holiday Wig Out goes Gaga; music and ambiance were fantastic, drinks extremely reasonably priced and staff, doormen & Della were all really friendly.
In addition, one of my friends had too much to drink and was being bothered by another club-goer - she lost her coatroom ticket etc; Della went in the coat room with her so she could find her stuff, kept the person who was bothering us away and paid for us to get in a taxi to the train station safely. Della and the staff went well above and beyond the call of duty and efficiently dealt with something that could've so easily ruined our night.
Definitely want to go back as soon as possible!
Went to Punk for Rockaoke on Friday night with some friends and had a great time. Good happy hour deals before 9 pm and just a really great atmosphere. Loved the DJ after Rockaoke and everyone at the door and the bar was really friendly. Needless to say, we will definitely be going back next Friday!
Went to Punk last Saturday and had a great night! The staff were all really friendly and polite, so I don't know why people are saying that they were rude? I would seriously recommend Punk- everything is well priced and the atmosphere was fantastic. Me and my mates had a blast and I will definitely be going back there next week! Punk rocks.
Went to punk to celebrate my 21st birthday with a mixed group of 15. We were all on the guest list so we got in no problem. Got a table, booked everything through Della and it was excellent. We all had such a great time...excellent music...good drinks and ambience. Can't imagine having spent my birthday anywhere else it was a wonderful place to celebrate!
I went to Punk on a Friday for happy hour and rockaoke with a group of friends and we had an excellent time.
The atmosphere is really cool and the crowd is generally unpretentious and just looking to have a good time which is refreshing for clubs in the west end.
Drinks are great and the bar staff is really friendly...we expected to just stay for happy hour and then ended up staying the whole night!
Rockaoke was great fun, they have a really good song list and the band is top-notch. When it was over the DJ played a good mix of all sorts of music that had the crowd going.
Overall, a fantastic night...will definitely be back.
Had a wicked night here on both Friday and Sat. Pleasantly suprised that the music policy was actually what it said. Electro, Alternative, 80s, Rock etc and not just RnB remixes and top 40 pop like you normally get at these west end venues that advertise otherwise. Great tunes and atmosphere. Can ask for more really....
I went with my friends (1 girl and 4 guys) on Saturday March 20th at 9:30pm and was asked who we were there to see by the security guy. We told them we were there for the club, so he told us it was not open until 10pm, even though their website says the club is open at 9pm.
Could have been miscommunication or a lie and my initial thought was that the guy was lying.
We go to a local pub and give them the benefit of doubt and come back at 10pm. There was another security guy this time and asked how many were in our group before telling us that if we came back in 10 mins and give him a £10 each, he would let us in.
It seems ironic that Saturdays at Punk are called 'FU*K REHAB,' but that was what we thought.
Went to Punk for the Friday Rockeoke. Word of warning - only cocktails seem to be at happy hour prices, drinks are generally expensive. Also, the speaker volumes were cranked up so high, if you weren't hard of hearing at the start of the night, you probably would be by the end of it. Anyway, to end on a positive note, the band that night were a really tight outfit and very encouraging to novice singers - was most impressed by this.
Seriously do not even consider going to this club. I have never experienced such rudeness from an idiotic and uneducated chick with a clipboard in her hand, the so-called head of security, and the club's manager. I never write reviews, but this needs to be done. It was my friend's birthday and there was about 20 of us (mixture of guys and girls) on the guestlist. We were told that it was fine, everyone would get in and the usual bull they feed you. About 6 girls were already inside and the rest of us got there a bit later. Queued up for 30 minutes or so .. fair enough. Got to the door, I tried to give my name and was simply told "err no, how many guys and girls in your group?". I explained there were 6 girls and 8 guys but there were girls inside already. I wasn't even considered. All I got from her was "No, sorry, you need to get out of the line, its not happening". Tried reasoning with her but of course, how can one reason with that?
So I tried to speak to the head security guy and, no word of a lie, he told me to shut up and he didn't have time for "this". The manager was just as bad, she came outside with a walkie-talkie (because thats her authority right there) and just told everyone to move. They wouldn't even talk to us or explain the reason for their refusal. Safe to say, I didn't take it well and told them where to go. The door policy is a joke, they portray themselves to be different to other central london clubs but they're worse than even Movida and Crystal. Simply - don't even bother unless you want to be talked to like a dickhead.
Been on a punk a few times Been on a monday and friday. Worst place ever. Bouncers are rude and slightly racist! Just full of underage kids. I got id'ed (i'm 28) and bouncers just let some kids in because they were flyering. How did i know they were 17? because they told me. Its not like the kids are grateful they got in (apart from the boosting) they were rude and utterly ruined the night. Its not just a one of, they come every week. Expensive drinks, rude staff, just horrible.
This is without doubt the best club I have ever been to. There is not one bad thing I can say about it. I have been 5 times now and it gets better and better each time. The music is insane, never been to a club thats constantly played such good music throughout the night - a real mixture. Everyone there is nice, not filled with portentous, stuck up people like most of the clubs around. This is the club of london
Punk was everything I was looking for on my first night out in London. I found Punk to be a great friendly atmosphere that welcomed a mixture of people that weren't self-involved posers who regularly ruin everyones night! I arrived in time for free entry and ready to dance! I found Punk's original cocktail drinks a reasonable price and they were definitely worth the wait! The Dj's mix was a hit for most of the night with the dance floor packed near to the end! I'll definitely be returning for round two with more friends!!
I went to Punk Soho with a girlfriend for my birthday (a Friday night last month) and had the BEST time. It's a refreshingly fun-loving and unpretentious place; everyone there seemed really chatty and friendly. Even the loo attendant was an absolute gem of a lady.We got there pretty early, around 10.15 - it was quite quiet at this point, mellow atmosphere, all very lowlit and pink-hazy. Beautiful decor, easy on the high-heels carpeting. Bar one sofa in the corner, it is worth it to know that seating everywhere else is reserved, but the hallway leading to the toilets has useful seating to crash on if you need to.
Like most places, from 11 on is when it really started buzzing, and the music was your usual chart/dance stuff, well managed, and people really just seemed to enjoy letting their hair down on the dancefloor. Only a couple of dodgy middle-aged men lurking in dark corners, who only stuck out because the crowd skews 18-25. Drinks are quite expensive, something very close to £10 for a double spirit + mixer, and not a lot less for a single. It's pretty much this alone which makes it only 4-stars for me. Pretty ordinary London prices for beer and wine though, £4 - £6.Absolutely worth a trip, easily one of Soho's best.
Great music, great collection of people, great atmosphere, greatstaff. Punk is GREAT BRITAIN! Love Punk, always back there for more fab times and free-dancing fiasco's!
One of London’s most famous venues and Kate Moss’ choice club, Punk is everything you could want from a party-location. It was born from and is, what London is: an extremely colourful mixture of people and attitudes. Someone looking for a glamourous night out rubbing shoulders with the Who’s Who of the London art fashion and music scene would be just as much as home here as a rock-kid with a mission to let loose.
To walk into a venue seeing Paris Hilton & Lady Gaga together! WOW!
Best night-club in London.
I went to Punk last Saturday (5/12/09) much smaller than I had originally expected as I came inside. I must say I am 25 and my friends and I are on a decent salary but we picked Punk because on the website it said (and this is copied and pasted here) "This is NOT a venue that charges extortionate drink prices" I think over £40 for 4 JD and cokes is fairly extortionate. The crowd was generally young - a lot of americans too. But alls I could think was " where are these young girls getting all their money from" because they were mostly drinking alot of champagne.
Having said that, I did have a good night the crowd seemed very much there to dance unlike other central London clubs and have a nice time and there was a nice atmosphere as whole. Another gripe I had which was what made me settle on a 2 star rating rather than a 3 star rating was the DJ, yes the music was good "fun" pop music the kind that most people like The Killers, Kings of Leon, Beyonce etcThe Dj just had no idea what he was doing and I mean none!! He couldn't mix, he couldn't read the crowd, the crowd would be really enjoying one song then he would go and change it to something completely different. One example was just as everyone was really getting into House of Pain - Jump, he switched to quite a slow song just leaving people hanging on the dance floor with not much to do.
Went with my friends on Saturday 7th November 2009.
Wow ..... What a great club and fantastic music, old skool, cheesy chart, rock, Indi, funkyhouse, R&B everything you want form old chart to up to date hits.
I didn't stop dancing all night, great club and nice friendly people. Drinks are typical 'London' prices ie £4.00 shot sambuka £7.00/£8.00 spirit & mixer.
A fantastic girls night out with 3 of my friends and what a gem to find this club by chance. Took some sweet talking to the bouncer to let us in as guest list only but worth to effort.
Crowd are young, posh, rich & trendy types just out having a laugh with friends. No wannabees or 'wags' thankfully!
Lovely VIP area but didn't get opportunity to see the area in full.
We highly recommend this to anybody who loves to dance enjoys a variety of music and is up for chilled time with no hassle and wants enjoy being around fun loving people. cant wait to go back.
Rachel/Manchester 12/11/09.
Waste of time and money. We found the staff rude and argumentative.
If you think about planning an event with them, think again because they will just ruin it!
There are much better places nearby.
This is the worst club I have ever been to. And I've done a few...
15year old girls in the club thinking they're Gods gift because they got into a London club, rugby boys in tight shirts eyeing themselves up in a host of mirrors, big sweaty men in orange dungarees taking up the whole of the dance floor with their shitty dance moves, sweating over everyone.
Pretenciousness in every seedy corner, crap decor, 12 year old dj's playing songs that were shit 10 years ago. I hated it.
This place can change it's name however often it likes but it will always be pathetic.
I went to Punk last year and remembered it as one of the best night's out I'd had but worried it might not be as good 2nd time round.
I need not have worried at all. Absolutely brilliant! Went on a Sat night. Most central London clubs I've tried play rubbish music and/or the people are too scared to dance in case they wrinkle their designer dress. This place is exactly the opposite.
Such a brilliant mix of people and the music! Well which other ubercool London club has everyone singing along to Wonderwall then jumping up and down to the Killers?
And the best thing about this place is that everyone has a massive smile on their face all night! People are friendly without being creepy, they'll dance with you 'cos they wanna dance with you not 'cos they want anything else.
We were on the guest list and arrived before 10 so got in for free, had 3 drinks then started dancing at 11.30 and didn't stop til 3.20am when the club closed!
At one point it was so packed you could hardly move but then later on, we managed to commandeer the stage at the end as our own personal dancefloor. That's another brilliant thing about Punk.
All seating bar one settee is reserved but the last few hours this all goes out the window and no one cares.
Every single person in the whole place including the oh-so-cool at the beginning of the night bar staff are dancing their hearts out and when the DJ had to finally turn the music off he had a massive grin on his face and said he wanted to thank everyone for a brilliant night!
Next time I'm in London I'll want to try another club but I know I'll just go back to Punk. A good time is guaranteed!
Hit Punk last night and was very impressed, very cool atmosphere, and decor with nice mix of interesting people.
Has an exclusive feel without some of the associated uptight feeling.
Staff are also very helpful with guestlist etc. and the music was spot on.
Most definitely worth a visit
Punk is amazing!! went there on 30th May for my birthday and loved it!
door staff were really friendly and no probs with the guestlist.
soon as we got in there it was packed and the music was amazing- such a good mix, just danced all night!! :) definitely recommend!
Punk is amazing!! The staff are friendly, the decoration is fabulous and the atmosphere is great. The crowd is hilarious and everyone is lovely to talk to.
But best of all is the music, all the tunes you love to dance to are played, going through a entire range of songs. F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S.
Great venue and I've just heard that they have booked in Bohemia to play on the 29th April. Amazing! They are a quality band and it's good to see that venues like Punk are starting to have live music. Come down and check them out!
Have gone here a couple times now...always makes for a great night. Weekends are especially fun and bring in a great crowd. Drinks are not to expensive and the atmosphere is excellent. By far the best of Punk is the music. Be ready to dance all night when you go!
DoorStaff are as friendly as they come (which isnt a complimant, just an acknowledgement you wont find much better)
Barstaff are generally nice...cheapest drink you'll get is a bottle of beer for 4pounds though..
Clientle is a mixture of gay and straight which is really nice (good compromise if your straight out with gay friends or vice versa)
But finally, the music is amazing....best set ive ever heard, something for everyone, all the new tunes, dance, indie, classic rock, even some motown
I've been here a couple of times now and it never disappoints. The music is better than most places and the staff are friendly. Two enthusiastic thumbs up from me! :)
If you're going out to get cheap drinks, then go to Wetherspoons.
I went for their Hallowe'en event, it was excellent! A great and friendly crowd, fantastic DJ and awesome atmosphere. People have complained about the staff on here, personally I don't chose the clubs I go to because I hear they have bouncers and bar tenders that always smile, it's for the atmosphere and social aspect. My friends and I had a quality time, danced with loads of randoms and didnt leave the floor all night.
No, the drinks aren't on the cheap side but you expect that of London clubs, don't go straight there as soon as you get into town, go to a few pubs & bars first to make up for it.
I can only recommend this club, I was sceptical of going due, to reviews on here, but it was one of the best nights out I've had in London so far!
Go to Punk!
if you wish to have your booking cocked up, be heavily insulted by door staff who overate their very mediocre, overpriced bar then this is the place for you! i have never bothered to write a review before but feel so strongly about the rude staff that i decided to. it amazes me that any club can be so rude to people and still be succesful, i hope that people eventually abonden places like this and the owners get what they deserve!
Nice decoration, good drinks, but definitely overrated , expensive for the quality, nice music for 30 mins but, after that you listen the same hits over and over again.....lack of originality in the music. I have to admit i had a great night out there, but just because we had a few drinks b4 and it was a birthday....I would recommend it for a young and amateur crowd...you will have a blast, but for the same money you'll spend there, you might as well try some other west end clubs.
As I arrive to Punk on Saturday night on August 16, 2008 I see doormen who tend to look self-important making a decision whether to let me and my friend in. I am laughing inside thinking the people on door are young and transparent giving away the information that the place is probably empty and has low standards. My intuition is telling me don't go there...but I want to please my friend who read good reviews...Indeed as we enter Punk the place is empty and it looks grabby. On a deeper level, the place is a cheap copycat version of Sketch but ends up looking as a student pad, chaotic, undefined and smelly. We are informed that the place serves only ‘double’ gin and tonic. We are left having no choice over what product we buy and feeling pressured instead. Is it legal? We are looking for a place to sit down and notice that all tables are marked as ‘reserved’. In the end we see a table which is free. We are sitting down drinking our gin and tonic and we are watching the only group of other people in Punk except us. The adolescent looking boys are dressed in their fathers’ jackets and the adolescent girls in their mothers’ wardrobe. Few minutes later we are approached by a waitress who is asking us to leave the table in passive aggressive manner, as it is apparently reserved despite the place being completely empty. We try to reason with her feeling confused what makes her pressure us to leave the table since it is not marked as reserved and she tries to convince us it is not her poor customer service skills but rather the management who created the rules. We ask to speak to the manager and ‘the table manager’ seems to give us the same explanation but at least agrees that we can finish our drink. I am still not convinced that I would ever employ these people to work for me to treat my business this way. These people clearly have no concept of how to run a business and in this sensitive market period they are heading for a disaster. On the other hand, us customers
I very much enjoyed my time down at Punk last night. The queue moved quickly, with very competent door men who greeted you with a smile on arrival (a rarity).. walking down the steps into the club, there was already an air of excitement surrounding the place, with music luring us into the venue. To the left of us, a very adequately sized bar, well staffed, and we were served almost immediately, despite the fact that the venue seemed to be close to capacity. Music was great; a complete mix-mash of everything. Nobody seemed intimidated by what was being played, and the dance floor was more than alive at 11pm. Again, something you usually don't see in clubs until 2am. Everybody had a smile on their face.. I had a smile on my face looking at the decor, which seemed well thought out and pleasing to the eye. The toilets were clean, with the attendants friendly rather than just trying to hassle you for a tip. No guilt trip involved, in fact, the attendants made you feel like you had known them for years. Turns out I did know one of them, but that's another story. Drinks were reasonably priced, despite the central London location of the club. I bought a mojito cocktail, which was made effeciently, and tasted absolutely delicious. And it didnt' break the bank, either! Phew, as it turned out I had lost my bank card on the tube, so all I had was the notes I had in my wallet from a recent trip to an ATM earlier in the day. I'd spent a little bit of money on a chorizo sausage sandwich in a Soho cafe beforehand, but, let's not stray from the subject. Overall, I had so much fun at Punk and can't wait to get back there again! I just wish I hadn't of gone home on my own.. I was so certain I was gonna pull.. better luck next time, eh? Probably could smell the chorizo on my breath from the sandwich. Tip for Punkers: (a new word I've just coined) don't eat sausage before you go out! Anyway.. Punk. Great times. Check it out!
I went to punk a few weeks ago because i heard agyness deyn goes there and she is my idol (i know its sad but hey at least im being honest). Its very small and not very nicely decorated but i have to say we had a really good night. The music was awesome, they played all those old skool dance classics which i love and random songs i hadnt heard in ages. Not at all pretentious, really laid back and friendly. Everyone talks to eachother and dances with strangers etc. I asked the DJ to play some commercial music and he actually did!! Which I didnt expect :D Definitely recommended for a relaxed, dress down night out.
Went there last night. The music was wiked, so dofferent fromt he normal boring rnb you get at most clubs. Its a small club but thats what makes the great atmosphere. The only downside was that the drinks are quite expensive, so its best to drink before you get there. Even though I broke the sofa it was a really good time. Recomend going.
I've been living in London for the past 9 weeks and for all of the nights that I have gone out, I must say that Punk was possibly my most memorable night. My only complaints: the drinks were slightly overpriced, but nothing too appalling. We somehow dodged the cover, so that made up for the price of drinks! The crowd was friendly and fun and the DJs were awesome! They were enjoying the music as much as I was. Even a certain unnamed celebrity showed up for an on-stage rock performance. Since I'm not from the UK I had no idea who she was and my friends and I ended up dancing with her in the middle of her show! All of this craziness on a Tuesday night! If you are stuffy, predictable, and pretentious you will hate Punk. If you like to dance, socialize, and know how to enjoy yourself with your friends (as many people who review clubs don't and expect to be entertained) then Punk is great.
I went to punk for a friends leaving-do, we were on the guestlist, equal mized group of guys and girls, we queued up for half an hour before being told that the club was ful and we wouldnt be allowed in (at 11.30pm!) so i asked why they were allowing people to still queue up, the bouncer looked a tme and said it was none of my business and to leave the area! will not go back ever again.
I spent my birthday @ Punk last weekend, and I have got to disagree with all the bad reviews! The music was fab- a really great mix of varied tunes that deffinately got us girls dancing. We had the best table and the waitress was lovely, we had no probs with the door staff (and I know a lot of us were in and out for fags.) I contacted Della @ the breakfastgroup to arrange guest list etc and she was really helpfull.... as for pretencious- not at all- I had a really varied group, and we all had a great time- Will be back! And thanks for a fab night!
I just came back from a night out at Punk.It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in my life. The place is so full of itself that you can tell is a wannabe. The DJ was so rude it was untrue. Because he could not hear me asking him if he was intenting to play Alphabeat, after screaming to hear me, he turned around to say something that to me was SO out of order. He said: "I do not understand you, you do not speak English, sorry, leave me alone". The bar staff were also rude and acted like they were working at the coolest bar on earth, thinking that they could treat people any way they wanted. I am so dissapointed to have wasted a night in such a ridiculous place. I would certaily recommend going to bed rather than spending a night in that narcissistic venue.
A bit smelly and tacky. The door staff were ok with us though and the bar staff are lovely.
Hello,
I'd like to respond to Nigel's below comment:
"I feel that your review is not an accurate reflection of how we operate as a venue and I would not like for other View London readers to get the impression that Punk is discriminatory in any way, shape or form."
I am not going out of my way to present Punk club in a particular way. I am merely sharing my experience at the club. It is interesting that it has taken about 6 months to get any form of reaction from a representative of the club, and that has been via a review website. I did in fact contact, by email, to complain about this incident, but I was completely ignored. This disappointed me further and hence led me to writing this review.
If you are concerned that all your hard PR work is being tarnished by this review, then I would suggest speaking with the management of the club to ensure that they are not mis-representing the club in any way in the future.
I went to this club last night and had an absolutely amazing time! Although I had to pay a tenner to get in even though i was on the guestlist (it goes up after 10!), it was well worth it. Drinks were pricey, but that's normal for a west end club... everyone was really friendly. The people in the club were all in a good mood, and it was a fantastic atmosphere...! The music was really really good, and everything I expected. The only problem i had was with the rather nasty female bouncer, who was on a complete power trip and patronised me totally. She was horrible!! But the bouncers on the door were friendly, and the barstaff were nice too so that made up for it!
Definately will go again, and will go before 10 so its cheaper!!
Gave it 2 stars because music was good..... 30 of us were on the guest list for a friend's birthday. The door staff (who were incredibly stuck up and on a serious power trip) made the boys pay £10 to get in despite being on the guest list (including the birthday girl's boyfriend)....why???? They were not apologetic about this, just rude. One member of staff in particular was so rude we almost left....the "heavy set" female bouncer was one of the worst door staff I've ever encountered. But as it was my friend's birthday we stuck with it. The music was very good, we all danced all night. But there was a fight on the dance floor. And when the glass collector was carrying the broken glasses away, he cut my boyfriends hand with the glass.....and then sighed at him for being in the way!!!! My boyfriend's hand would not stop bleeding and it took about 15 mins before I could get a member of staff to give us some first aid equipment (a plaster and some EYE WASH!!!) We had to go to the toilets to clean it up, as they did not have a first aid room and would not let us go into "their" staff areas! And then they tried to stop me going into the men's toilet with my boyfriend to help him clean up! Serious health and safety issues in this place, there is obviously no one first aid trained in there. My friend's heel also got stuck in the gap in the raised dancefloor area....another potential (and embarrassing for my friend!) issue for the club organisers. This has the potential to be a great place, if the door staff were all replaced and trained properly! I will not go again because they were so rude, even if the music is good. Sort it out!!!
Punk is a beautiful venue situated just off Oxford Street. It is a small exclusive club and has an amazing atmosphere. It is filled with beautiful girls, and the staff are amazing! The doormen were the nicest i've ever met in London, it is know my favourite venue! Compliment to Loria the barmaid, shes beautiful :p
If you are yet to visit PUNK let me tell you you are missing out BIG time.
I've been a shorditch regular for years and always hated London's West End due to the cheese and commercial aspect it generates. So when my friend invited me to her birthday at Punk I was a bit dubious. But have now changed my opinion. We went to Smash and Grab and had the most hysterical time.
The music and atmosphere worked hand in hand and the staff were always there to top up our drinks!
I can't wait to go again!!
I went to Punk last night (sat 20th october) with a group of friends - a group of equal male and females and had an extremely upsetting experience. We approached the club and queued up, told the door staff what guest list we were one. One of the door staff, I was later told by the club manager he is the promoter of the night, began looking each of our group members up and down and then went on to point at each member of the group that he would 'allow' into the club and then pointed to a friend of ours who has learning difficulties and said 'but he's not coming in'. We asked why? He then said, 'he's not our type'. Our friend was dressed in black trousers, black shoes, black and brown shirt and a black coat. I don't see how he could not be their 'type' unless of course, they have issues with allowing people who have learning difficulties into their establishment. I was extremely angry and disappointed with the way the club behaved and will not be returning in the future. I was born and raised in London and never have I experienced that kind of prejudice and attitude from a club. It was disgraceful.
I went to Punk on Saturday 5th May. Having been a frequent visitor to the club when it was POP I was both excited and nervous at what to expect. I must say the revamp really works, the furniture looks fab as does the flower prints. The door staff were great as well really friendly and funny (not your usual jobs worth folk).
The location of the DJ stand has moved taking a little space off the already small dance floor but amazingly this did not seem to have any effect, in fact you barely even notice. The crowd there were just the type I like a good mixture of people from all over with one thing in common they all wanna have a good time.
The lovely sex slaves who serve you were fantastic and always had a smile for the ladies. This club has a really good vibe to it and you can tell that even though it's still early days this club will begin to draw large numbers. With it's soft pink lighting and glamourous surroundings you can't help but feel sexy. This is a definite stop on a Saturday night.
Visited Punk on Saturday and I have to say, what an improvement they have made on the old Pop! All the new furniture and decor is great! There was a really good crowd down there too, so all in all we had a brilliant night. Cheers! See you next time at Punk.
Punk is madness! Lots of weird things go on in this place. Bring on anarchy - Punk is here to stay!
I went to Punk on Saturday and it was excellent. I previously attended about two weeks before that and the venue was quite empty and the DJ wasn't great but there were some A listers.
This weekend was excellent. I was welcomed by nice doormen (for once!) and a free cloak room which is a plus. The music was great, the crowd was big, and drinks were quite expensive but not too bad. Overall , Punk was a really good night with a lively young crowd!
