The ViewLondon Review

South Pole combines the essences of an inner city bar with an outer London club. It offers moderately priced drinks, great music and clubbing, all under one roof.

The Venue
South Pole is conveniently situated on the outskirts of Greenwich, near great transportation links including Greenwich train station and a bus stop. The venue is divided into two sections – the upstairs is a quiet and cosy bar decked with traditional pub furniture (North Pole), and the downstairs is a small igloo-inspired room and is the perfect place to hone your dance skills.

Downstairs in South Pole the walls are lined with comfortable seats, small round tables and a little bar - they should just name this area the tiny room seeing as everything is minute, including the dance space.

The Atmosphere
The two different areas of this venue attract two different types of crowds. South Pole mostly attracts a generation of twenty-to-thirtysomething clubbers. Thanks to the support of local club promoters and some radically themed nights, these nights are a huge hit among revellers in the neighboring boroughs. It’s only a shame that the bar staff have a bit of an attitude.

The Music
The North Pole usually plays an assortment of RnB, jazz, pop and funky house; however, there isn’t a DJ - the music in this part of the venue is pumped through a standard stereo system. Although you may not be able to enjoy wonderfully mixed tunes in the north, head downstairs to the South Pole, where you can enjoy some hardcore RnB, garage and baseline house, blended together by the energetic resident DJ.

The Drink
The drinks at South Pole are moderately price given its location. You can enjoy a pint for about £3 and a wonderfully mixed cocktail for £6-£8. The beer selection isn’t as great, although you do have a range of twenty wines to choose from. Aside from you average spirit and mixer; you can also opt for a bottle of WKD or Bacardi Breezer for about £3.

The Last Word
South Pole offers a vibrant atmosphere and is a winner on the clubbing front, but it still has a while to go before it can perfect its service.
