The ViewLondon Review
Being a high profile and well established club, you come to expect a lot from the reputation of Spearmint Rhino. Fortunately, this branch delivers.
The Venue
In stark contrast to the Spearmint Rhino located in the very heart of London, this branch can be found a short drive from Heathrow airport. The exterior doesn’t belie the fact that it used to be a pub, so on first impressions you may assume that it’s going to be small on the inside. However, looks can be deceiving and you’ll find that the club is actually rather spacious – a tardis that would make Dr Who proud, were Dr Who into lapdances.
Before entering, you are greeted by two professional and well dressed doormen who usher you inside where you pay your £10 entry fee. Pushing open the door, the bar greets you. This is a relatively small area compared with how big the rest of the venue is – a large central bar isn’t necessary in a place that prides itself on table service, after all. As you look to the right of the bar, you will see a small pole with some tables and chairs around it for when it becomes busy.
The decor is wonderfully provocative with leopard print carpets and red walls that look to be emblazoned with flames when the spotlights shine. However, the focal point of the room has to be the 20ft pole where the main stage is - that's a lot of pole.
If you want to go for a private dance, there are two areas. You can sit on a plush black sofa in the semi-private dance area and take one person in with you for £20, which equates to one song. Alternatively, you can head upstairs to the VIP room where you are totally alone with the girl and can have up to an hour of dancing. By the side of the stage are curtained booths, which are normally reserved for stag, hen or birthday parties. To pay for dances you can either do so with good old fashioned cash or - if you want to pay by credit card - you can obtain Rhino chips, which look like poker chips, and hand them to the dancers before they start.
The Atmosphere
You might think that Spearmint Rhino would be dripping with sleaze. In actuality, it’s quite the opposite. A mix of people come here from 18 year olds to the retired. You even get a few girls, which stops the atmosphere becoming intimidating. Due to its close proximity to Heathrow, you do tend to get a lot of businessmen and travellers here.
The attractive girls aren’t pushy - making you feel at ease - and they’re happy to sit and chat with you. The girls are approachable and genuine, which makes you want to have private dances as opposed to feeling obliged to. The table service is efficient and not as pushy as you get in most strip clubs where you feel bulldozed into keeping your drink full at all times.
The Music
The music can vary but it comprises mainly chart hits, RnB and anything that is slow and sexy sounding to aid the girls dancing. As the night wears on, the music becomes faster paced. Expect to hear a blend of LL Cool J, Timbaland, Massive Attack and La Roux.
The Drink
During happy hour Spearmint Rhino offers a great drinks deal where shots and bottles of beer are just £2. Even off happy hour, however, prices aren’t extortionate with bottles of beer starting at £2.95 for a Holsten rising to £3.95 for Magners.
Vodka shots begin at £3.75 for a single Stoli with a bottle coming in at £95. If you fancy an expensive malt whisky then a single Glenfiddich costs £8. However, at strip clubs like this it’s all about the Champagne. The house is £7 a glass or £45 a bottle with other favourites such as Veuve Clicquot (£65), Dom Peringon (£175) and the celebrity tipple of choice Cristal (£280).
The Last Word
Spearmint Rhino Heathrow does the brand proud. An ideal stop off if you’re flying into or heading out of the country and are feeling lonely.
