The Adelaide is a nice place for an event, but you should go in with your eyes open. It is important to take into account the likelihood of having to cover part of your minimum spend in your budgeting. The venue is a little bit out of people’s way, and this reduced the numbers we were expecting. We did not meet our minimum spend, and were told “that this happens all the time”.
We were also surprised at the state of the venue. The building is old and “is soon to be knocked down”. The stairs down to the kitchen were pitch dark with minimal lighting from candles. Whilst we could use the kitchen, appliances were leaking and we continually had to mop up as we worked down there. We were told that this had been a problem “for a while”.
In fact, when we made the complaints above, these were initially met with aggression. Eventually both were worked out amicably, but not before quite a degree of resistance on the venue’s side.
Overall, it was probably a mistake for us to go to the Adelaide. We wanted to flag these issues so that others think through whether it’s the right venue for them.
The Adelaide is now under new management.
We took over The Adelaide as a private hire venue in 2010, with new staff and a new look!
The Adelaide is a fantastic place for a party.
Please give us a call, or send over an enquiry and we would be very happy to help.
Thanks!
I recently had my engagement party at The Adelaide, we all had a fantastic time!! I had spent a lot of time looking for the perfect venue. I’m really pleased I went for The Adelaide; the staff are so helpful, right the way through the booking process and on the day of the party. They helped us book our DJ, and let us use the kitchen. Our guest loved the venue, and had a great time dancing the night away.
It’s a really relaxed place, and I’m sure I will be parting there again!
Had my 30th at The Adelaide function room last wknd, as the main pub is closed for a re-furb.
A great venue if you want a big party atmosphere etc, couldnt fault the staff, altofghether a great success!
Cheers
Ian
Hi,
I am the manager at the Adelaide and have been here about a year and a half.
I was just posting up this years NYE info on listings and found the comment by Cassie. I have to say that I am very surprised and very disappointed by her comments. I mean is she kidding or what??
I honestly couldn't stop people coming up to me all NYE last year, introducing themselves and saying what a great time they were having and that it was the best NYE they had had in ages. Besides all the entertainment we laid on everyone kept saying how they had met loads of really nice people and that’s what made it so cool. (They obviously didn't meet Cassie!) DONT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF! look on our myspace and see the pictures!
We didn’t have any fireworks as in case she didn't notice it was raining most of the night and would not have been safe or pleasurable to do them. The Thai nibbles were served before 11pm as after that it gets too hectic to serve food.
As for the cloak room, we will be having one this year as we have a space we can now use but we are a pub/bar not a club and as such we are lucky to have one but not expected to.
As for people dressing up I can only say one thing-is she blind???
Anyway, this year will be even better with an Outer Space theme, more DJ's, more bands, check out our line up on view tickets
Thanks for the comment Rachel & I hope you come again this year!

My Friend Toby introduced me to this place as he lives just down the road. I had been up the Engineer a couple of times with him, but this place is just the best!
Great staff and the crowd are really friendly my sort of people...no riff raff to be seen....spot on!
Don't forget to wear your best friday shirt!

I just came across the below review by chance and really think Cassie should have better things to do then posting a bad review on New Years Day!
I went to this party with 5 of my friends and we had a fantastic time, it was soooo much fun!
1, This is a pub not a club and most pubs don't have cloakrooms.
2, The ticket was only £20.00 so what kind of champs did you expect Lauren Perrie? Why didn't you buy your own bottle, they do sell it?
3, I won about 8 free drinks - of my choice - from the casino - getting pissed was oh so very easy!
4, They had an amazing band upstairs playing for the whole night and they had live acts in the casino room that were really great!
5, A lot of people did dress up, some guys brought a massive stuffed tiger and I saw people dressed in burlesque and all sorts! Plus the wedding chapel looked great and I married Elvis - at least once. Errr I guess I did drink a lot?
I live close to The Adelaide and go in a lot for their Blues Jam and garden in the summer. So who do you believe? Some people just don’t know how to party!
For those who expect more for £20.00 I suggest they spend more. Clubs with cloakrooms cost about £50 to get in, at least, and the drinks are very expensive!
I went to The Adelaide for New Year's Eve for the first time after booking blind on the net. I had no preconceived ideas, but was sorely disappointed. The dress code listed glam or fancy and the reality was everything including t -shirt and jeans. Plus, there was no cloakroom, which is not good in the dead of winter. The air conditioning wasn't working or wasn't effective.
The shot was disgusting, the Champagne tasted cheap and they closed the bar at 11.40pm and reopened it again at about 12.20am because they couldn't quite cope with pouring the cheap champers into the plastic flutes. Thai nibbles and fireworks were listed and I didn't see either. You couldn't get drunk if you tried. For me, The Adelaide just didn't deliver.
