The first things you’ll notice about the Barrow Boy & Banker is the high ceiling, regal staircase and huge chandelier.

It’s only a minute’s walk from London Bridge station and can be found at the top end of busy Borough High Street. It undoubtedly has a bit of a chain pub feel – this is a Fuller’s pub – but the bold features somehow make up for the potentially uniform aspects. As the name suggests, there isn’t a ‘type’ of person who might pop in for a drink.

When we visited the place was fairly busy. There was a sprinkling of suited and booted city boys, a few families (children are welcome until 9pm) and number of bar flies. Ale lovers will undoubtedly love the well kept beers. London Pride £2.30, ESB £2.35. The menu offers a wide range of pub food including home-made soup with bread and butter £2.75; sandwiches for about £4; cheese and bacon burger with chips £6.50 and salmon and cod fish cakes served with mixed salad £6.75.
