The ViewLondon Review
Showcasing some of the most upfront and cutting edge DJing talent in the capital, The End places music in the centre of a very real clubbing experience and has been doing just that since 1995.The VenueSituated on a backstreet near busy Centre Point, the bright blue building of The End is also home to its sister venue AKA, merging together every Saturday to create the legendary ‘As One’. Descending down through the metallic staircase, you enter this iconic underground world in the middle space between the main DJ room on the left and the big bar on the right – so whichever way you go you can’t go wrong. Bringing the focus of the first room to the big names that frequent the decks, the infamous DJ booth there holds the central position on the dancefloor. To compete with this, the smaller lounge has a comfortable seating area but often shoots off on its own dancing marathon to overtake the main room.
The AtmosphereHaving no official dress code, liberal working hours and smashing line-ups , The End truly lives up to its philosophy of being open to everyone as a place that unites those who love music. However, this still means that the remarkably strict and professional security staff manage to do a good job on the door. It is not about what you wear, who you are or where you’re from – as long as you don’t forget your dancing shoes and leave your pretensions at home, the atmosphere really brings the diverse mix of people together. Whatever time it is, it always feels like you are leaving the party in the middle. This makes it a great host for Jaded - one of the most popular after parties on Sunday morning until 12pm for party animals who are still going even when it is light outside.
The MusicThe End is the place to be for those who are passionate about music and have an open mind and heart, although the state-of-the-art sound system, considered one of the best in London, is sure to help you tune your heartbeat to the music. With something for everyone, there are different nights every day of the week - the best thing being that Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with their much loved distinctive nights such as Durr and Swerve, are just as good as the weekends. Then either hot new acts or the definitive residents, such as Layo and Bushwacka, DJ Marky, Groove Armada and Erol Alkan, take over the show.
The DrinkIt’s no wonder it is hard to see unhappy faces at The End, with a team of very efficient bar staff; surprisingly reasonable prices on beers and classic spirits for a West End club; and tempting special offers on a selection of shots. Although on most nights there is only one bar covering the whole club, you are generally served in good time and with a smile.
The Last WordThe End is definitely worth the long queue, and if you know what to expect, you won’t be left disappointed.
