Having previously enjoyed visits to Grand Union bars in Kennington & Kentish Town (both for nights out & post-night out burger-based recovery), I thought I'd give their Islington outpost a try for my birthday this year. I was not disappointed; friendly folk behind the bar & on the door, cracking drinks and an all-round good vibe! A great night, many thanks.

Went down to the Grand Union on Saturday with a few friends, what a night, amazing DJ's, bit packed but not squashed, had some gorgeous cocktails and didnt even wait too long at the bar.
Thanx for an awesome night, ill be back

I really like this place. The decor is different to anything else you'll find on Upper Street; a mixture of retro / baroque and trendy. The staff are adorable and very attentive (they offer table service here). The prices are very reasonable and mysteriously you will often manage to get a seat here.

Haven't yet eaten one of their burgers though will try soon no doubt. Extensive and resoably priced cocktail menu. The House red is fairly undrinkable though (you've been warned!).

The GU Bar is probably the best pub on Upper Street and certainly deserves a visit (just as long as you don't take the last table!).
