The ViewLondon Review
Have you ever seen the awe-inspiring Justin Timberlake video Rock Your Body? The moment when the world saw Justin dancing in a LED-filled room set a burning desire in fascinated clubbers’ hearts to do the same. Lightbox gives you the chance to do just that.
The Venue
Located in Vauxhall, Lightbox sets new standards. It’s designed as a cutting edge technological club with a capacity of 450 and there are VIP customer comforts upstairs on the mezzanine. The main room is a one-of-a-kind with 15,000 interlocked LED lights that can be programmed in thousands of different variations to spell out names, logos, images and even display movie clips. The room also features moving scan lights, integrated smoke and multicoloured lasers.
If you get tired of hard grooving and twirling lights, there is space for chilling and calmer beats. Lightbox is set over three rooms and has an underground feel. If you are looking for an alternative to the main stage the next room Curfew is worth checking out. Decorated in warm red tones with its own DJ box and an LED chandelier as the centrepiece, it offers intimacy and privacy. The last New Room with its brick wall interior is a perfect escape for those who prefer conversation.
An additional benefit of Lightbox is its terrace area, which is what clubbers are after when summer settles in. Wooden tables with umbrellas, comfortable seating, beautiful staff and hot dogs make this area a real highlight. Be aware that alfresco clubbing is not always available as Lightbox is a part of Fire Club, which overtakes the outer space sometimes.
The Atmosphere
Standing in the middle of the main dance floor feels like being amidst millions of stars, changing accordingly in time with the music. If you look carefully you can see waves of colours blending into one another and then suddenly all of them move out into circles, swirling crazily above your head. This is complemented by rainbows of colours created by the lasers and five plasma screens. This creates an incredible atmosphere and people who really love their clubbing come here to experience something different.
The Music
Different nights attract different crowds. Obviously, the decisive factor is the music genre of a given night. Largely home to the finest house, electro, tech house beats and DnB parties, Lightbox has the potential to satisfy all. Expect nights with big acts and DJs like the Hoxton Whores.
The club is located just under some train tracks and if you listen intensely you can hear trains passing by overhead. Weirdly, the trains’ swooping sound mixes with the music, composing its own beat to each song.
The Drink
You will not go bankrupt with a shot of any spirit (Jack Daniels, Bacardi, Malibu) priced at £4 and a mixer for as little as 50p. A bottle of Stella can be purchased for £4. If you prefer canned beer, even better for your wallet as cans of Stella are only £3. Energy drinks go for £3 with vodka for £6.50. They even sell wine for £4-£6.50 a glass.
The Last Word
There is no other club like this in London. Quickly becoming the most talked about party venue among club-goers and DJs, Lightbox is definitely pioneering a new clubbing experience.
