The ViewLondon Review
Tutus is a first class club for students, with celebrity DJs, cheap drinks and arguably one of the best views of London.
The Venue
Tutus enjoys a lofty fourth floor location and is made up of a main dancefloor (with a stage packed with writhing students) and an upstairs bar area where the glass windows show London at its best although unfortunately, with extremely little seating it’s hard to appreciate them. Silver, dark blue, light wood, dark brown - the random, industrial themed decor isn’t exactly thrilling and at times looks very boring and bare but the spectacular scene of London lit up and the dark, moody lighting masks most faults. There are two bars but with limited space and large crowds of thirsty students, it can take a long time to get a drink.
The Atmosphere
Tutus is packed with Kings' students every night of the week but especially on Saturday nights for the legendary 4th Floor club night. Everyone is tipsy, lively and extremely friendly so you’ll soon find yourself having a good time with your friends but also having a laugh chatting to strangers. A sense of familiarity is in the air as this is a regular hang out for many Kings College students, so the atmosphere is very relaxed but on the dancefloor it’s all about having a good time.
The Music
The music is a commercial mix of mostly indie with some electro and RnB, and anything else the DJ fancies, making it a good blend of top tunes and club tracks. The glammed up girls strut their stuff on stage whilst the boys eagerly watch them and try out some sexy moves to entice them (blame it on all the hormones). No one cares what they look like, who they’re with or what they’re doing, which is echoed in the music that appeals to their fun loving, easy going nature. Celebrity DJs regularly appear such as CSS and The Blah Blah Blahs, making some nights truly special, but on regular nights sometimes the music can all start to sound a bit too similar.
The Drink
Cheap is the operative word here, as London students need somewhere to buy their drinks without maxing out their overdraft. Cocktails are available for the bargain price of £5 for a pint and with sweet fruity choices such as Sex on the Beach and Woo Woo, which are surprisingly pleasant, combined with hardcore alcoholic legends like the Long Island Ice Tea - be careful, this packs a big punch - there’s enough on the list to keep everyone happy. Shooters for £3 are generously sized and a delicious way to get your night going. Of course, there’s the usual selection of basic spirits and mixers for reasonable prices but the wine and beer selection is stripped to the bare essentials.
The Last Word
With no particular thrills or frills, Tutus isn’t as impressive as some other London clubs but with ok music, a great atmosphere and unbeatable cheap prices (like £5 entry with NUS), it’s perfect for a taste of student nightlife.
