The music venue is a beaut! Feels quirky but kinda extravagant! a real little gem with great sound, saw some excellent bands and its just the right size to the get the intamacy you don't get from bigger music venues. There's a real difference in clientel between to two floors (upstairs can get a little rowdy) but its actually quite nice to drift between the two.
This is a regular for me and my best mate - we meet for drinks there at least once a week because they are just soooooo good. I think the cocktails are a little pricey as some of them come in a really small glass, so I only had 2 this time, but it was very good...shame I couldn't have more!
Food is not bad too. I would like them to change the menu up sometimes (cos then I'd go and eat there more often). I turned up on my birthday once with a large group of people, and even without a reservation manager went out of her way to get us a table together (on a busy night) and everyone were really friendly.
Would definitely recommend a visit!!
Zigfrid has to be the best bar in hoxton square and the east end for that matter... The staff are great, food amazing and music is always fantastic . Highly recommended. Chris O.
Been going to Zigfrid for a while now and always felt it was really good, but lacked a little something? Now its got a 3am license it's a great place to go to and probably the best place on the Square for a full big night out if you don't plan on going to a nightclub.
The food is great, the cocktails are something else and the music provided by some wicked DJ's is always top notch. The crowd is a little more clued up than most places in the area which is always reflected in the atmosphere.
I had a really nice time at Zigfrid. I was there to see my friends band play in their basement venue, The Underbelly. I turned up earlier than my friends so had a drink on my own upstairs in Zigfrid. The staff were cool. I would definitely go again. Reasonably priced cocktails and rocking interior.
Zigfrid is the best bar in hoxton by a long way. Not only the food is top and affordable , but the music program is simply fantastic with selection of some of the best DJ from the Uk and the world.
The bar stuff is very friendly and the brinks are reasonably priced and well made.
The decor is super cool and it has a nice outside area overlooking at the square .
Its open till 3am and its one of the only free places open till late that its always free to get in!
A really fun place with a good line up of DJ's and bands. Really busy on the weekends so a good place for weekdays as well. A decent balance of guys and gals too. A tad bit of a wait for drinks on the bar but a cool night out!
I used to really like this bar but it has definitely gone down hill. The staff are amazingly rude, particularly the ginger Eastern European lady who at one point in the night came over to demand that we move from the table we were sat at because we hadn't spent enough money on food to warrant us sitting there. This was despite the fact that other people who were sat around had finished eating before we even sat down to get our food! She shouted at us and kept getting right in our faces about it. I was more than a little shocked at the horrible lack of customer service (particularly given how expensive the drinks are). Definitely don't go to this bar! They completely ruined our night.
I'm sitting in Zigfrid von underbellys right now using their Internet and even though the decor is nice It doesn't make up for the fact that the the staff are rude, patronising and have an air of arrogance about them where's the customer service?
I won't be coming back not even if it's free drinks all night.
We went here on Saturday night for a friend’s Birthday and would not go back here again!
The food was average, one of my friends orders was missed off and she had to wait another 15 minutes for it to arrive, my other friends meal was cold so had to be sent back..we all ended eating at different times.
When we received the bill there were numerous things on the bill that we hadn't ordered and when we questioned this it took 3 members of staff about 20 minutes to sort out.
When we made a complaint as the bill was the last straw we were met by the incredibly obnoxious manager, she was extremley rude and did not have a clue about customer service!
There are so many nice bars and restaurants in London so I would really recommend you do not bother with this one!!
Had an amazing night at Zigfrid. The General Manager really looked after us. Would definitely recommend it. Fantastic service, nothing was too much trouble. Loved the vibe.
very unpleasant and rude bouncer gave no warning before throwing us in with the drinks. ruined the atmosphere, made us want to leave.
I'm really shocked by the negative reviews below.
I have nothing but positive comments to say about Zigfrid Von Underbelly. I intially went there for drinks with friends and loved the atmosphere and friendly staff. After finding out that they had a venue downstairs I decided to hire it and now organise monthly music events there.
The bar staff, management and promoters are really helpful and always go out of their way to help both the bands and myself.
The door staff have always been pleasant to me and others attending my event and I have never heard any negative critiscm regarding the venue.
Definitely a bar/venue to check out. They hold some great music nights there. I definately recommend it!
Hated it! Mediocre food and appalling service. When I queried being charged £2.80 for a small glass of ginger ale the waitress called on the manager who was very unpleasant and aggressive. He sat down at our table lecturing us on how we should order and told us to be quiet whilst he was speaking. I ended up paying up just to get him to leave. I would urge anyone to not visit this place.
I booked the venue for my birthday for 25 people, we were allocated a space for about 7. I spoke with the manager asked if we could have some more stalls, he was not helpful at all extremely defensive no customer service skills. I also run a bar myself and think that customer service is very important the staff/management here seem to have the attitude we'll take your money for tonight !
The bar staff looked miserable none of them had a clue about working behind a bar, we were over charged and had to wait ages for drinks. The food also represented the staff, and their poor skills. The door staff think their the presidents bodyguards you are treated like a child and told off...what a sham !
I think the only thing that keeps this place going is the decoration and the location.
I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone !
Having booked this venue off the back of reviews I had read for my birthday.
I was really pleased with the result. Everyone had a fantastic time. The venue looked great and there was a superb atmosphere.
I was unsure when I had booked for 15 people yet was given seating for maybe 6 yet this wasn't a problem as it just gave people more of a chance to mingle.
The only down side to me was the wait for drinks as it was so busy, yet a place that good, it's no wonder.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone else.
Excellent venue. Great and oustanding design. Very friendly staff and good service. They have good choices of cocktails and wine. I had a great time there and I will recommend this place to all my friends. I will definitely come back.

Amateurs! Spent an afternoon with friends on a group couch area eating the very average tapas, and spending generously over the bar. And although we had good service from French bar attendant who organised a birthday cake for the birthday boy - all became apparent how amateur the management in this place actually are. Like a bad trip in the ziggy stardust era, we were rudely asked to move as the area was apparently reserved for the evening - Even though we noticed reserved signs in other areas during the afternoon, no-one had come over to inform us. Their Solution? kick out the patrons who had given them great business. What a bunch of Trippers!
One of my favorite bars in London. A bit crowded on Fri-Sat evenings where the bouncers might turn away if you arrive after 10pm. The rest of the week it is a great place with leather couches and funky interior. Perfect for relaxing yet fun Tuesday after work drinks with good friends.
how does this bar and grill stay packed all the time even during recession?
ill tell you how,its tatally unique and brilliant. thats how
WOW.
I've been going to Zigfrid for years. This is now a classic bar as it keeps changing. I don't know who does this but it's never the same. Each time I go back there's something new. I spoke to the barman who said that they were going for a live music license in the basement underground bar.
This is a night out in Peckham not Shoreditch and I like it for that. Perfect if you've already had a couple of drinks beforehand, although prices should be more in line with clientele.
The Zigfrid bar is okay, the food is okay, but the staff attitude and service is slow and they don't care about you waiting if someone else turns up at the bar. The Zigfrid staff also think they are starlets.
Me and my friends decided to celebrate the beginning of a new term with a pub crawl in Brick Lane and Hoxton and ended up spending the whole night in Zigfrid. First we had a dinner in the restaurant area and the portions were big and therefore good value for money.
Afterwards we moved to those comfy sofas and we sipped daiquiris and mojitos in the candlelit atmosphere. The only annoying thing was the music that was too loud for serious conversation later on, but by that time we were all pretty tipsy and dropped the talk and danced until the DJ finished. We'll go back to Zigfrid for sure!
I went to Zigfrid for lunch with work. We booked a reservation with a deposit to then find out that they hadn't reserved a table for the day and time requested but they were just holding our card details for god knows what reason. Eventually we managed to sit down to see that the majority of the glasses were covered in lipstick, and had obviously not been washed at all.
On top of everything else, my clam chowder and the bread served with it were both past their best, in my opinion. Do yourself a favour, don't ever go to Zigfrid!
Annoyed. Waited forever to get in to Zigfrid. Arrogant staff. Never again! So many bars around, why can no-one focus a bit on service? And, they let everyone in, surely Zigfrid must have some sort of maximum capacity thing there.
I had a good time at Zigfrid and I always do. Relax by day and party by night. Watching the World Cup here has been great, so i'll be at Zigfrid to see if England go all the way.
Zigfrid must be the bar from hell, you have to wait for hours for a drink and then the bar staff look like that they don't get paid enough to care.
Zigfrid was a good bar once but now whoever runs it, get another job and fast. And tell the girls behind the bar to smile, you're paid to look happy.
As far as I can see Zigfrid is an obnoxious bar with the ability to be almost acceptable. I can do Zigfrid on a Sunday with a hangover to take the piss out of pretentious uber trendy Hoxton hair cuts and all bar a few bar staff think they run the place except a cracking gay guy who was on top form and some dreaded up girl who made me amazing cocktails. Good luck trying not to fall up your own arse.
WOW! I heard about a new night at the club below Zigfrid, Underbelly, called RANDOM where house, breaks and electro meet couture, as they put it and it was not disappointing, it was the best night out in ages!
I urge all you girlies out there to get down to any future RANDOM events at Zigfrid and enjoy a night without pretension that is all about the music and having fun!
Zigfrid's is a rocking place to be, both day and night, the food is great and I would like to see more bars like Zigfrid's, but if you are not a lover, then go to a pub with warm beer and two old drunks holding up the bar so it makes room in Zigfrid's for my friends.
Do you wear sunglasses indoors? Do you wear a massive scarf and hat in the summer? Are you so trendy, you've become a complete fool? Do you like barstaff who's entire point of being there is, to like, not be there...yeah? Do you like people who end sentences with yeah, yeah? Then please for the love of god go to Zigfrid. Going to Zigfrid is like the Haj but for idiots.
My god, 20 mins plus to get a drink at Zigfrid. I've had more fun waiting in line at a tube station. In an area with so many places to drink Zigfrid is by far the slowest and over rated.
I also was absolutely gobsmacked by Zigfrid. It's great, the staff are great, the DJs are fantastic and the clientele are sweet. I had to do a google search to find out how this Nathan Barley character rubbed so many of you up the wrong way and would like to add that your all out of line! I'm pleased you didn't like Zigfrid - more skirt for me taxdodgers!
Glancing at your website, I was pleased to see that it's not only my friends and I who think Zigfrid's epitomises everything that's wrong inside the Shoreditch triangle today. As long as there are out of towner's, posers, fashion student wannabes in their mother's clothes and the odd loser, Zigfrid will stay in business and ruin it for everyone else. Stay away, come to Brick Lane instead...
Only visit Zigfrid if you are trying to prove a point of how the quality of bars vary so very much in this area. I have been to this bar a few times and although I can not put my finger on what exactly makes me hate the place something about it just makes me always leave after one drink. Do yourself a favour and give Zigfrid a miss.
Zigfrid is the worst bar in London in my opinion. There is never any loo roll in the toilets, you will be standing at the bar for 20 minutes or more to get an overpriced drink and even then there is nowhere to sit. Horrible bar - up itself and on the way out.
As cosy and intimate as a living room, complete with couch side lamps and shades. The music is unpretentious yet modern, with the occasional and welcome mix of classic popular music and cool older classics such as Hendrix and the Doors. A great looking crowd and plenty of space for al fresco action outside, the food looked great and drinks were good value, we stayed all night and loved it.
