Greyhound dog racing at Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium - a night at the dogs in London for work parties, a guy or girl’s night out and family gatherings.Greyhound racing is now a firmly established sport in the UK with greyhound racing tracks all over the UK, but racing was never the initial intention for the greyhound. The greyhound arrived in Europe nearly 3,500 years ago and from 1014, greyhounds were owned only by noblemen for hunting, following a ruling by King Canute. In the 1500’s Queen Elizabeth I abolished this rule and the greyhound was thereafter used for greyhound coursing (the pursuit of hares).
Greyhound coursing was appropriately named “the sport of Queens” and continued into the early 1900’s when greyhound coursing naturally progressed into greyhound racing for the purpose of betting large sums of money. The first ever greyhound racing event took place at Belle Vue Stadium, Manchester, which is still open to this very day.
These days greyhound racing attracts a huge following of serious betters as well as Hen, Stag and Birthday parties looking for a fun and unique night out. Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium is one of many greyhound stadiums that caters for groups with many party packages available.
