Danny Boyle's follow-up to the masterpiece Slumdog Millionaire is a heart-pumping experience, but it doesn't do enough to make us feel for the character of Aaron Ralston whose experiences of being trapped in a crevas in Utah forms the basis of the film. James Franco gives an outstanding performance as Ralston, but even this can't hide the fact that apart from the film's spectacular visuals and gripping climax, 127 Hours is a dull empty experience with very little heart. The whole film is so unrealistic as we watch Ralston speak through a video camera with his rm trapped in a rock not even making one sound. The film to most extent fails in capturing Ralston's psychological experience just going through the fact that he's all alone without help. It's an interesting survival drama, but the spectacular climax where Ralston finally chops off his arm to escape is about the only bit when where really keeping our eyes on the screen or not as this final scene is to most people unwatchable. After that, that's it. We've sat through an extraordinarily boring film about a gut who gets stuck and talks through a video camera. We leave the cinema feeling relieved that the whole long plotting movie is over feeling not in the slightest bit moved and very queasy. Bring a bag.

127 Hours is at least watchable and Franco is a must-see, but 127 Hours could have been a bit more effective in telling this inspirational true story. It's too much a freak show.
