I loved "Cass" and could relate as I lived in London paticularly the S.E. and recognised the sites. The problem is your reviewer probably has never lived outside of London and obviously isn't interested in the life of a man unless it littered with exageration and folly. "Cop out ending" Geoff Thompson may have taken out his target Big Bad Cass could only be seen to "bottle it.." to use his own terminology come the big ending. Did I miss something or was Thompson charachter supposed to be a drip who developed a spine in the end. Fact is in life not all hard men are 6"5 with bellowing voices and bags of charachter sometimes their just normal (blokes/chaps/geezers/men who sweep floors) In order to give a productive review learn to empaphise with all charachters from all walks of life!!! For the life of 1 floor sweeper I think it says a whole heap about life you my friend missed the point. Now to show me your less of a bottler than cass print my review and let the people decide who's right dare you.
I saw Clubbed at the showcase in Derby Frdiay night and was very pleased to see "Watch My Back" (screenwriter Geoff Thompson's autobiography) more or less come to (heart-thumping) life on the big screen.
It's been interpreted as a thugfest elsewhere, but actually it's an inspirational story about how people can change their lives for the better - and as the character Louis puts it in the film, people get the chance to walk away from trouble.
Well done to both the Mr Thompsons for an entertaining and exciting film.
Mark Wingfield
Loved it. The dialogue may not be Shakespeare, but as someone who actually lived in the Midlands in the 80's it seemed utterly real to me, as did the tension, the humour and violence. Also, it doesn't glorify or play down violence (a la Guy Ritchie). It shows it like it is (shocking and nasty). I just thought it was great to see a film so real and honest.
Intended to see Slumdog but locked out so checked out Clubbed.
Great british film with a great soundtrack.
You must go and see this film.
THE G MAN
Caught this on the opening night. A stunning piece of cinema that makes you laugh, cry (if you're like the wife) and recoil in horror. Light years better than the formula-driven Hollywood norm, and miles away from the typical British lads flick. Loved it. I know nothing about directing, but how anyone can say this is badly acted is beyond me.
This Is a must see ""brit flick"",amazingly realistic fight sceenes,!violent "Yes",Swearing "Yes",but this is the real world. real time film, wake up and smell the beer sodden carpets. Good gritty edgy stuff.
Hey Mr Critic - What were you watching? This is a great Brit flick with a solid story and a great message.
It's hard hitting honest earthiness is conveyed by the actors, the highly charged Sparky, vunerable Danny and Colin Salmon as Louis is coolness personified and a twist at the end of the pic.
Yes it's voilent. Yes there's profanity and yes it feels like the 'real' world, not some sickly sanitised feel good Hollywood movie. This is a proper Brit film!
We enjoyed it, and recommend it. And I will go see it again.
Nuff said Mr Critic.
Great film with lots of fighting action, a good story line and intelligent jokes. Colin Salmon is a great actor! Saw it as sneak-preview and will go again. For everyone who is tired of happy-ending romance Hollywood films, Clubbed is a must.
