Excellent film, highly recommed it. On the lines of a documentary a real eye opener to the life in this area.

i agree with don1953, i didnt pay to get depressed by the darkest realities in india, i wanted a 'feel good movie', which it achieves only slightly by the end. having said that, there was great work done on cinematography.

Yes it was a dark start, but it was very true to life. life is not all roses for the whole world, it reminds us how lucky we are to be born in a better situation. We should all appreciate what we have. It was a brilliant film and a very happy ending.

I had to walk out after the first 30 minutes as I found the scenes deeply upsetting - very violent - physical abuse of a young boy, electrocution, head in a bucket of water, man set on fire, murder of innocent people, drugging young boy in order to blind him in one eye. I am sure the film has a happy ending but I was not prepared to sit through another 90 minutes. The film posters said that it was the feelgood film of the decade - this is not my idea of entertainment - I wish that I had given the £10 that I spent on my ticket to Oxfam.

Yes, the opening 30 mins are violent, but only to show how violent the lives of these poor children can be - it certainly wasn't gratuitous.

Aside from that the film is beautifully shot, in true Boyle style, well written, funny, sad, emotional - and yes, the feel good film of the year.

So ignore don1953's comments and go and see the movie - the cinema I was in was full of over 50's who certainly didn't seem to be the squeamish type like - maybe don1953 is better suited for staying at home practicing his crosswords, sitting in front of the fire with his pipe and slippers!!!

A hugely enjoyable movie and well worth the 5* rating and official review.

The film revealed a glimpse of the huge and colourful complexity of life in one of India's principle cities. I cannot say it filled me with a desire to visit the city, - don't know how the Indian tourist board feel about it! - but I can only applaud the director and producer the courage and gamble to bring us such an entertaining and unusually inventive story set against what appears to be an entirely credible and dramatic social backdrop of modern day Mombai.

- Just brilliant!

I was lucky enough to see a preview of this film and I have to say, it totally took my breath away. Amazing cinematography from Boyle, great acting (the young actors were superb), stunning use of colour and truly uplifting. This has to be the best film I've seen this decade and I think it will be a disgrace if it doesn't walk away with a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Picture. Although Slumdog Millionaire is harrowing in several places and the end is somewhat predictable, it would be difficult not to be emotionally touched by this masterpiece that leaves you thankful that the cinema was invented.
This film truly touched my soul, like no other film I've seen before. It gave me hope and had me crying tears of joy. I loved that it included traditional Bollywood themes i.e. love, singing, anti-hero, villains but was able to incorporate the gritty realism that previous films have tended to shy away from. And the soundtrack by MIA complements some of the scenes perfectly.
Slumdog Millionaire is the Shawshank Redemption of the noughties. Totally brilliant, totally beautiful and not to be missed!
