Definitely worth going to see, and clearly owes a debt to the artistry of previous prison-inspired works like 'Hunger' and 'Un Chant d'Amour' - but it never quite reaches the sheer pathos of the British classic 'Scum'. Jack O'Connell is great as the angry young offender, and Rupert Friend is good too as the voluntary worker who tries to help him. The 'group therapy' scenes - where O'Connell's character starts to warm to his fellow inmates - are nicely done, if slight, but the rest is all rather grim. Don't expect to be uplifted.
