I have read many reviews about ‘The Long Good Night’ and each reviewist does not seem to get what the film is all about. They expect to love each character as if they were the most likeable people in the world when what this film is truly about is that part in a relationship when tiredness seeps in and everything seems to be a chore; you feel drained, washed out and as if the love is dripping away. The film has some intensely thought provoking moments of love and relationships that I am confident many have experienced, and for those of you who have not it gives you a good insight into when a relationship sours and how to avoid the pitfalls.

‘The Long Good Night’ has a fantastic cast ranging from Martin Freeman (Best known from playing Tim in the office) who plays Gary a former British pop star, Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays his long suffering girlfriend, Simon Pegg, Penelope Cruz and even Danny Devito and if you can give this film some thought you will really get to the heart of it.

I do not want to give too much away about this film but the narrative leans toward the thoughts of Martin Freeman’s character (Gary) and his search for the answers to love and personal fulfilment and how fantasy and life seem to merge.

Finally when watching ‘The Long Good Night’ do not expect to be smiling all the way through as it has a deeper meaning but if you can handle chanelling your emotions through a film you will love what ‘The Long Good Night’ has to offer and with splashes of inspiring cinematorgraphy it will certainly leave you feeling as if you have been watching a true photographic genious.

I have to say I was really looking forward to this film because of the great cast, but it was really disappointing. I agree with Matthew Turner's review.
