I loved it. The drawing/animation is simply beautiful. As a perfect homage to Edinburgh and also to Jacques Tati, it will be treasured forever. I found its gentle, whimsical approach very touching, but clearly it is lost on some people (the 'plot-is-everything' brigade).

Apart from one or two longueurs about two thirds in this is an utterly charming and captivating film. I loved Jacques Tati and lived for a long time in Edinburgh at about the time this film is set, so I must be the ideal viewer for this film. Don't go if you want a standard cartoon film with a Disney plot. You'll be disappointed. Do go if you like the style of animation you see in the Belleville Rendezvous and 101 Dalmations for that matter. Do go if gentle surreal humour, lovely glimpses of a lost past and if you have a heart that can be touched by something more than standard manipulative schmaltz. Tati was like Charlie Chaplin and there's something of the relationship of the tramp and the girl in this story of Tati with the young girl he finds along the way and helps to transform into a pretty young woman. Its innocence is touching and rare.

7 years to make, extremely boring. Director should be ashamed for his inability to tell a story in any convincing fashion.
