So, the Americans are re-writing history again are they. And oh look surprise, surprise the British come off badly again!

This time we’re in South Carolina in the seventeen hundreds and the war is brewing between the colonials and the evil English.

Mel Gibson brings the heroic Benjamin Martin to life – a brooding and brave family man who does his bit for his country while endeavouring to protect his kin.

Heath Ledger, playing his son Gabriel, is a real find. Handsome and butch in that Australian kinda way (Gibson was brought up from antipodean roots) he is remarkably believable as a relative of the great Australian one.

Big battles, high running passions and the English get a pasting. Pretty much the same as his last historical flick.
