A bewitching mystery that will captivate anyone. Christopher Nolan's adaptation of Christopher Priest's novel is a gritty mystifying tale of a bitter rivalry in Victorian London. Both Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman are superb as the two magicians who try to seek out each other's secrets. Michael Caine definitely gives a knockout performance as the stage mechanic who supports Jackman's Angier while David Bowie adds some sparkle as the brilliant inventor Nikola Tesla. A wonderful watch. The only problem is that the whole thing is just a little bit slow and dull. Otherwise this is a brilliant film.

An excellent film with gritty portrayals of a bitter rivalry by its two main protagonists.

Even what has to be regarded as an outrageous premise, invented by no one other than David Bowie sporting a daft moustache and a stove pipe hat, is curiously believable and unnervingly horrible.

Best of all a masterclass in cameo acting by Michael Caine.

I'd watch it if I were you.
