Superb - richly deserving its Oscar. Of the other contenders, I have seen "A Prophet", which I found very well-made, very well-acted and extremely powerful - but "A Prophet" doesn't operate on so many levels as "The Secret..."

This film works as a love story, a hard-edged thriller and a gentle comedy - Esposito's relationship with Pablo is as touching, in its way, as that with Irene.

mathew turner appears to have missed the importance of the group photograph where the murderer's adoring look at his future victim convinces Esposito to pursue him.
brilliant movie ,can't understand why some critics think "White Ribbon" or" The Prophet",engrossing as they were, were more deserving of the Oscar.

There is also the photo that was ALMOST missed - of Irene's engagement party where Benjamin is also seen looking at her in exactly the same way with the same look as that of the murderer in his photos....awesome little irony that can be missed very easily
