This film should have been - definitely wants to be - a classic. Jack O'Connell is endlessly watchable and looks set to take over Hollywood. The movie itself is slick but despite the deeply powerful true story depicted on screen that is epic in its own right, the drama rarely touches the viewer in the same way that a film like 12 Years A Slave does, for example. Jolie has clearly done a good job as a director but she doesn't direct with the eye of an artist. The script too has little depth. It makes for an 'ok' movie and I suppose we should be grateful for that as it's very easy to make a bad one.
