So what is there about London's film history that you know/find interesting?

Whether it's the Pheonix Theatre in East Finchley (London's longest running cinema) or the fact that the location of Europe's first moving picture house, or 'Kinetoscope Parlour', is now a dodgy-looking electricals shop on Oxford Street (number 70).

Post anything you know, any interesting locations below, and I'll keep posting a few too.

London has the oldest established film school in the world. The London Film School was set up in 1956 by the then principle of the London College of Fine Art. He wanted to set up a film course in the school, but the college was sold without warning, so he decided to run the course independently instead. The school settled in Brixton before moving to Covent Garden in the 1960s, where it has remained.
