I went for my birthday. Very disappointing. In particular the finger sandwiches. They were dry and curled up. When I complained to the manager he did not apologies but offered the assurance that they had been made that morning, at £35 a head I think they should me made fresh to order! I suggested that they ought to invest in cling film or foil if they had to make them ahead of time. He thanked me and moved on. I’d given the perfect opportunity for them to reduce the bill, but no. The service is polite with stuck on smiles but they really couldn’t give a hoot. I even emailed the hotel but received no reply. I’ve had tea in so many better places in central London. The mad hatters tea at the Sanderson, give it a miss!

I took my Mum here for her birthday treat but treat it was not; the staff could not care less from reception staff to waiters, we were sat between the kitchen and the uber trendy bar (which at 5pm had all the workers coming in for cocktails) and so this just did not fit the atmosphere of an afternoon tea. We were never offered the area shown in their photo's/ website. To add insult to injury, the food was at best average (and I mean best). yes there's a theme but no care or quality. If you want a theme and quality then Pret a Port Tea at the Berkley is my suggestion. I've been to most of the hotels offering afternoon tea in London and this one is the very bottom of my list, never to be repeated. My advice is to go somewhere that really knows what they're doing and gives a fig!

My friends and I came to the Mad Hatter Tea party for a quirky treat. What a disappointment. The sandwiches and scones were lovely, the lollipops quite fun, but the cakes were too sickly and the Drink Me potion was voted revolting by the entire party. We waited about an hour and were never offered a cup of tea so had to ask. And again for milk. And again when it ran out. And again to clear our old tea pots away. For £35 per head we were not impressed. On receipt of the bill we found out there was a discretionary 15% service charge. Given the above we felt this was too much and so put in £5 each. When the waitress came to collect our bill she counted it twice in front of us and then said we were £1.50 short! We pointed out the faults in the service and that the service charge was discretionary! Well, said waitress went off in a huff and proceeded to have a moan about us to her manageress in full sight of all of us, hand gestures, finger wagging and sour milk face. I have never experienced such bad manners from a waitress and told them as much when I went to complain. We were really hoping for a treat today. It started off so well but due to the appalling customer service, I doubt any of us will be returning to the Sanderson again!

We went for our friends birthday,the concept is good but the reality disappointing,no effort is made to think you are at a mad hatters tea party!. Its not really suitable for children due to the weird flavours of the sandwiches,which we found disappointing anyway,the cakes were very sickly apart from the scone and jam,and the 3 tier drink was mixed with 3 liking and 3 hating. The hot and cold lolly was not either hot or cold!. When the tea came we had two pots with one tea bag in each pot so was that weak we did not really enjoy. Its such a shame with a little more effort to the theme,and a revamp of the menu,i am sure it could be improved loads. We figured with the money we spent we could of had a really nice picnic at the local park with champers included it was a lovely sunny day mind!.

I took my daughter and her friend (for their 9th birthdays) and her Mum,to the Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea, at The Sanderson.
We had to ask to have a table in the beautiful court yard as shown in the details, and they didn't really want to, saying it would be cold! We moved and it was fine as it's covered. It just would not have had the same appeal inside as the court yard did with it's water feature and fantastic flowers.
Be warned though, the sandwiches are pre made in the morning and there is no room for alterations. For example, the children did not want mustard on the ham sandwich and nothing could be done about it. Also, they were quite dry. No choices available at all. The whole idea was lovely despite this and the children thought it was very grown up.
So long as you don't expect the White Rabbit to serve you or to have any choices....you will love it. We did!

Mad Hatters tea party was a bit disappointing, no effort made with the surroundings at all, despite well over 50 people having the mad hatter tea. Menu was changed to a Christmas theme, and the flavours didn't really work on much of the offerings. The high point was the scones and sandwiches, the rest was very lacking.
The hotel itself seems really nice though.
For afternoon tea I'd ditch the theme and go elsewhere.

We booked the Afternoon Tea as part of a hen do and it did not disappoint - there was a great atmosphere and the staff were very accommodating to our large party of 15 giving us our own room (only with a small extra charge). The food was amazing - very indulgent and fun! I would recommend this to any party however big or small, Suka itself is beautiful and so is the food.

The massage therapist was good, but that is where my positive comment about Agua spa end. There is no privacy in this spa, as I was trying to relax, I could hear chatter all around me in the treatment rooms on both sides of mine as the only division between the rooms is a curtain, I heard footsteps, laughing, doors slamming, and even a machine cleaning the rugs. I complained to receptionist who smiled, charged my credit card, and told me to come back as I would have better luck next time. Well, I won't come back for such an expensive price Sanderson is a rip off. Better of spending the same amount and getting a private room with some peace and quiet. I was quite appalled by the reaction when I complained as well. I guess they don't care about repeat customers.

Sanderson is a good all rounder. Probably not for over 50s though!

In short...lovely rooms, comfy beds, great showers, atmospheric common areas....and a really hip bar.

The residents-only Purple bar is a hoot - you gotta love it.Security is a little over-the-top.

Location is great - a walk to almost anywhere you might be going, and just on the doorstep of Oxford Street and SOHO.For £250 or under, it's a great spot.

16.8.08 Sanderson Hotel stands out because of its elegant interior design. Unfortunately, the staff does not fit in in particular the security or doormen who acted as though in warzone, type of aggressive attitude which will bring standards of Sanderson Hotel down.

I've stayed here three times and made the most of the excellent spa facilities.
