stayed here a few times great staff , great breakfast location great for all west end attractions ,only one small complaint single rooms far to small even for one night ! rooms rates very reasonable for location
I used this hotel for my second visit to London while attending a course.
The hotel is centrally located, ideal for getting around but if you want something 'special' I suggest spending more.
Compared to the Ibis, this is a superior hotel. Okay, the rooms are small and warm, you can hear people walking past your room, you can hear the lift - but for the price, it isn't bad.
The restaurants were a bit on the expensive side, and the Chinese had a bit of a 'rush' feel to it, but the Il Grasso is recommended (Italian). Some fantastic meals.
You get a good, hearty breakfast, there is a nice break-out area and the staff are all friendly and willing to please. Bonus - beer in vending machines.
Overall, a good week at the hotel - only complaint really was the heat of the rooms - if you opened the window to cool off, you got the noise from the streets below, but as I managed to 'survive' a stay at the Ibis last time, this was not much of an issue.
I am staying there again in September, so will update after my stay.
Stayed here Easter 2008. Room was small but comfortable with clean linens, and had everything we needed for a 2 night stay.
Room was warm but that was very welcoming as it was the coldest Easter we've had for a long time. Staff (only came up against reception and concierge) were friendly.
Were able to book into our rooms early morning arrival, though I believe the earliest time is supposed to be 2pm and others may not have been as lucky as us.
Breakfast was a very very busy affair, but if you are used to working in a busy factory where there are lots of people eating at the same time - then it was ok - if you work in a small firm then you would probably wouldn't like it!!!
Bottom line -everyone gets breakfast!! Found no problem with that. Hotel conveniently situated, near to tube, shops, restaurants etc.
Bar quite busy during our stay, but managed to get squeezed in!I found this hotel ok for the price we paid for 2 nights B&B at £190. I am going back to London in March 2009 this time with my daughter and i will be staying at the St Giles.
The hotel is centrally located but other than that has nothing going for it.
There is no air conditioning which was awful.A small fan was available which moves the hot air round. The dining room is a cross between a 1970's school lunch room and a hotel one would imagine after the Berlin wall came down! Really awful> the staff were all friendly but the place was dreadful.A travel lodge would have been a much better option.
We go from Travel Lodge (with kids) or luxury for a short adult break. The St Giles was overpriced for a sub standard break ,never again. We had thought we would take the kids to a slightly more upmarket hotel (cost indicative) - dreadful ,never again
This hotel is appalling !!!!!
The rooms are considerably less than spacious (superior Double room is less than 6' Square), and the staff less than helpful. When I complained about various things, the hotel staff member responded with "I've heard our rooms are small" and "Don't complain to me, I'm unable to do anything about it" then she turned away. Ok, so Reception staff can't deal with a complaint, but the least I would have expected would have been an offer to get a manager or someone who could.
