Abou Diaby signs extended contract at Arsenal until 2012

French midfielder Abou Diaby has committed his future to Arsenal until 2012 after signing a new long-term contract.

The 21-year-old's new deal was confirmed following the club's 3-0 win over Newcastle at the Emirates last night.

"Abou has signed a new deal until 2012," Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger told the Gunners' official website.

Since signing from Auxerre in 2006 Diaby has made 55 appearances for the north London side, although he spent seven months on the sidelines after breaking and dislocating his ankle against Sunderland at the end of his maiden season.

Diaby has turned out 21 times for the first-team this season, however, scoring three goals.

Arsenal are also hopeful of tying tenacious midfielder Mathieu Flamini to a new deal. The 23-year-old's current contract expires in the summer, but the Frenchman has insisted he wants to stay.

Since standing in for Gilberto Silva at the beginning of the season, Flamini has gone from strength to strength alongside Cesc Fabregas at the heart of the team's midfield.

"My priority is to stay here," Flamini said after scoring a spectacular long-range strike against Newcastle.

"I'm very happy here. I'm happy to play in the team and everything is good. My representatives are talking with the club and I hope everything will be good. I want to play game after game. The rest, we will see later."
