Abu Hamza losses appeal against extradition

News image
The radical cleric Abu Hamza has lost his final appeal against extradition to the US to face terrorism charges.

Hamza is currently serving a seven-year jail sentence for inciting followers to murder non-believers and had appealed against his extradition to the House of Lords.

Senior judge Ivor Judge, however, ruled that his case did both merit consideration by the Lords.

The 51-year-old's lawyers had tried to argue that he should be tired in Britain as he was living here during the time of alleged offences.

Hamza faces 11 charges in the US, including setting up an al-Qaida training camp in Oregon.

He is also accused of sending money and recruits to the Taliban in Afghanistan as well as supporting kidnappers in Yemen who abducted 16 Western tourists in 1998 of which three Britons and an Australian were later killed.

A Home Office spokeswoman said that Hamza's legal team now has 28 days to appeal to the European court of human rights before he is extradited.
