Eriksson admits City exit 'is a possibility'

Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has admitted this Sunday's final Premier League fixture against Middlesbrough could be his last with the club.

Eriksson has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, suggesting club owner Thaksin Shinawatra is preparing to sack the former England boss.

And the Swede revealed earlier this week that he has had contact with representatives from Benfica about a possible move to the Portuguese side, who he has managed twice before in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Eriksson has repeatedly refused to answer questions over his future, choosing instead to allow the press and the owner to fuel the rumours.

However when asked again what his future holds after this weekend's final round of games, Eriksson said it was "a possibility" he may not manage the club beyond next week, adding: "But that's not a secret for anyone."

He continued: "We'll see. I know about the speculation but that's speculation. The facts we will probably know next week."

The uncertainty over Eriksson's future has been blasted by several sections of the press, as well as a number of City's celebrity fans since the news broke.

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher branded Dr Thaksin "a disgrace", while boxer Ricky Hatton said the last few weeks have been "a bad time to be a City fan".

And the idea of sacking the club's most successful manager for three decades was made all the more confusing when it was revealed earlier today that City could qualify for Europe thanks to their exemplary disciplinary record in the Premier League this season.

England were announced by Uefa as the winners of the fair play league, meaning one additional spot in next year's Uefa Cup will go to an English club.
