Goldblum 'ate up London'

Jeff Goldbum 'gobbled up' every moment of his experience on the West End stage and has become a convert to the charms of London.

The Fly, Jurassic Park and Independence Day star appeared at the Old Vic, an experience which he deeply enjoyed.

"I loved London to pieces," the Press Association reports he said at an environmental fundraiser in California.

"I was on stage at the Old Vic with Kevin Spacey, we did Speed-the-Plow and I ate up every moment of it. It was the best time I ever had and being on stage in that play was just delicious."

The Old Vic is gearing up for a production of The Norman Conquests by SirAlan Ayckbourn.

Ben Miles, who last appeared opposite artistic director Kevin Spacey's Richard II, is joining the cast.

Sir Alan, who was the first playwright to be knighted after Terence Rattingan said he had a "love-hate thing" with theatre.

He told the Guardian: "I love that moment when a show is firing on all cylinders in a room full of people who are having a great time. But the rest of it is really irritating. Come on ... why are we sitting in the dark? We all know it's only a play - so get on with it!"
