High School musical launches in London

News image
Former EastEnders star Letitia Dean was under intense scrutiny on the opening day of High School musical as the children of fellow celebrities Linford Christie, Andy Serkis and Jessie Wallace dragged their parents to the premiere of High School Musical.

Based on a film by the same name, the stage production opened at the 3,500-seat Hammersmith Apollo.

The story follows two high school students from opposite ends of the student body as they realise that they share a common love. Popular basketball Jock Troy Bolton and shy, nerdy Gabriella Montez threaten to realign their school's social boundaries when they perform together at an audition for the high school musical.

Critics have set aside their sharp pens and instead seem to have focused on the feel-good factor of the play, whose central lesson seems to be 'when in trouble – sing'.

Among the stars at the premiere was Bonnie Langford and Jason Donovan.

The former Neighbours star was recently told that his public support of Boris Johnson on-air was a "very serious" breach of broadcasting rules.
