King's Cross was packed as thousands of people paid their respects to the victims of the bombs that shook London three years ago.

London mayor Boris Johnson and minister for London Tessa Jowell, set down flowers by the entrance to the station this morning.

Survivors, victim's families and commuters gathered in a show of solidarity and respect in the overflowing streets around the central hub.

Highlighting the strong spirit of the city, Rev Kevin McGarahn, who helps survivors and grieving families, told the Daily Telegraph: "I first arrived here as a panic-stricken father as I feared for the safety of my daughter but when it emerged she was safe, I stayed on to assist."

There were also groups of people holding silences and laying flowers at Russell Square, Aldgate and Edgware Road Tube stations as well as in Tavistock Square, where a bomb exploded on the 30 bus.

Mr Johnson's memorial card said: "We honour the memory of those who died on 7/7 2005, we salute the courage of those who were injured and our thoughts and prayers are with all victims and their families."
