Murray through in Toronto despite rain delays

News image
British number one Andy Murray is through to the third round of the Toronto Masters after a comfortable 6-4 6-4 victory over Thomas Johansson.

Despite the match being hastily rescheduled due to persistent rain in the area, the number eight seed maintained his focus as he easily despatched the Swedish player on the Canadian hard court.

It was Murray's first match back on the ATP Tour since his Wimbledon quarter-final exit to Rafael Nadal.

And the young Scot looked fresh as he moved freely around the court and took advantage of several Johansson errors to progress, after receiving a bye in the first round.

Nadal himself also returned to action for the first time since his monumental final victory over Roger Federer, winning 6-4 6-2 win over American Jesse Levine despite looking sluggish as he went 4-1 down in the first set.

But the Spaniard - who became the first man to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year earlier this month - rallied to complete his victory in a little over an hour and a half.
