The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) has recognised the design strategy of the east London Olympic Delivery Authority's (ODA) inclusive park, awarding it for the site’s standards of equality and diversity.
Highlighted as an example for future developments in the capital, the project received industry praise at the RTPI's awards ceremony in London last week.
ODA's head of design Jerome Frost said: "We want to ensure that people of all cultures, faiths and ages and disabled people find the Olympic Park welcoming and easy to use in 2012.
"An integrated approach across all buildings, open spaces, parklands, infrastructure and public transport means that we will be able to go further than any previous Olympic Park."
Some of the ODA's design plans outlined in September 2008 include setting a new UK benchmark for wheelchair spaces and amenity seating, clear signing and wider pathways.
The construction of the venues and infrastructure of the London 2012 Games is funded by the National Lottery, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the mayor of London and the London Development Agency.
