Sussex police have confirmed a police officer was stabbed while attending a domestic incident last night.
Officers responded to a 999 call at 20:30 GMT from a distressed woman at an address in the town centre area of Bognor Regis.
Upon arrival the officers were confronted by a man wielding two knives with one officer subsequently receiving a knife wound to the hand.
After being treated at hospital for his injury the officer was discharged.
"A 35 year old man is in custody for questioning concerning an allegation of domestic violence and of assaulting a police officer," a police statement confirmed.
It added that the stabbed officer was the only person whose injuries required medical treatment.
The incident in Bognor Regis was the latest in a recent string of attacks on police officers, with a police dog handler hospitalised last night after being stabbed at least three times in the head when forces were called to an address in Liden, Swindon.
A 26-year-old man was arrested after the incident while the constable, who is in his thirties, was treated for his injuries. His condition was not said to be life-threatening.
On New Year's Eve PC Katie Johnson was shot in the leg after Lancashire police responded to reports of an armed robbery at the Hospital Inn, Bamber Bridge.
After six hours of emergency treatment, PC Johnson was discharged while two men have today appeared in court in connection with the incident.
