Stunned Federer lost for words after epic

Roger Federer admitted his five-set epic against Andy Roddick in the Wimbledon final was the "craziest" match of his career.

The Swiss star won his sixth title at SW19 after beating the American to overtake Pete Sampras' haul of 14 grand slams.

Federer said his "head was still spinning" after over four hours on court, where he eventually triumphed 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 16-14.

"Today I was on the lucky side. It feels funny to have the trophy back," the 27-year-old said.

"It was a crazy match, my head's still spinning. It's an unbelievable moment in my career.

"It's not one of those goals you set as a little boy but it's been quite a career and quite a month.

"This is not why I'm playing tennis, to break records, and this doesn't mean I'm going to stop playing tennis. I hope to come back for many years."

Meanwhile, a dejected Roddick was left to rue his third defeat to Federer in a Wimbledon final.

But the American said it was an honour to play in front of former champions including Sampras.

"I tried - sorry Pete, I tried to hold him off - it was a pleasure to play in front of such great champions," he said.

"I'm one of the lucky few that gets cheered for so thank you, I appreciate that. I want to say congratulations to Roger, he deserves it."
