Tottenham midfielder Teemu Tainio has stated his interest in joining Roy Keane at Sunderland.
Sunderland had a £23 million bid for four Tottenham players accepted last week, and Keane conducted separate discussions with each of them over the weekend.
After meeting with Keane, the Finland international has admitted he is tempted by the switch, particularly as the versatile 28-year-old has been told he can play in his favoured central midfield position.
"Of course it's flattering that such a legend would like me to play in his team," Tainio told Ilta Sanomat.
"Sunderland and Tottenham agreed to the transfer for the common interest and Sunderland would be an interesting option.
"The first impression was good but the transfer still has a course to run. My negotiations are still taking place.
"Sunderland have a great stadium as well as tremendous fans.
"I understand they are interested in playing me in the centre of midfield."
Steed Malbranque, Younes Kaboul and Pascal Chimbonda are the other players Keane is interested in.
Chimbonda has already stated his interest in moving to the Stadium of Light.
Tainio is expected to make a final decision by the end of the week.
