Visitors, commuters and tourists in central London can now drink from the newly-restored water fountain in Trafalgar Square for free.
The granite and brass fountain is situated on the east side of the iconic piazza and is now open for public use.
Mayor Boris Johnson commented: "It is fantastic news that a refreshing gulp of free London tap water is now available to the millions of people who visit Trafalgar Square every year.
"Many old drinking fountains lie dormant and I hope this newly restored feature helps to untap a new trend in civic planning."
Earlier this year, coloured LED, energy-efficient lights were also installed in the square as part of a regeneration programme launched back in 2003.
Trafalgar Square was first laid out in the 1830s, however the fountains were not formally unveiled until 1945. The pools can hold around 50,000 gallons of water which is recycled daily.
