Manchester United striker Federico Macheda was robbed at his home in Sale in the early hours of Sunday morning, police have revealed.
Two men made off with cash and jewellery in an incident that saw the 17-year-old's friend reportedly hit over the head with a bottle.
Italian youngster Macheda, who scored a brilliant winning goal against Aston Villa on his full debut last season, was not hurt in the robbery, Greater Manchester police said.
"Police were called to Washway Road, Sale, around 03:40 BST on Sunday July 12th 2009, following reports of a robbery," a statement said.
"Two men stole cash and jewellery from the victims before running out of the house.
"One man suffered a minor cut to his head in the robbery. Inquiries are ongoing."
According to reports, the robbery took place after an incident at a nightclub in central Manchester.
Sources said an argument broke out at the Circle Bar, after which Macheda and his friend took a taxi home but were followed by two men.
The robbery is the latest in a string of incidents involving Liverpool and Manchester United players living in Cheshire.
