West Ham to appoint Gianfranco Zola's replacement 'within 12 days'

West Ham will appoint their new manager within the next 12 days, a statement on the club's website confirmed on Friday.

Gianfranco Zola was sacked as the Hammers manager last week and the club claims to be making "good progress" in finding his replacement.

The statement released today declared: "West Ham United can confirm the club is making good progress in the search for a new manager and the appointment will be made by early June.

"The club is in the middle of a thorough selection process which could continue over the next 12 days before being finalised.

"The new manager will then have a month to prepare for the start of pre-season, with all at the club determined to improve on the previous campaign."

Details of the new manager are set to be announced on the West Ham website in the coming days.

Avram Grant is widely expected to be named as the new Hammers boss after announcing his decision to leave Portsmouth yesterday.
