Win tickets to the British Olympic Association's 1908 commemorative centenary Polo Match at Guard's Polo Club

Closing: 12/05/2008
Fancy spending the afternoon at a polo match, mingling with the beautiful people, celebrities or possibly even a jodhpur-wearing member of the Royal Family? Well budding Julia Roberts or Richard Gere’s can have their very own Pretty Woman moment out on the pitch treading the divots in between play thanks to the British Olympic Association (BOA). To mark the 100th anniversary of the Olympic Games first being held in London, Great Britain will take on Ireland on May 29th at the swanky Guards Polo Club in a historical re-staging of the 1908 final.

For anyone who fancies splashing out, the polo action will be followed by an exclusive BOA fundraising dinner and auction, helping to raise money towards the cost of preparing and sending Team GB to compete at the Olympic Games. Tables for the dinner are still available, from www.teamgb.com/supportus

The London 1908 Olympic Games are hailed as one of the most successful and iconic games of all time. London stepped in to host the event at short notice after Italy, the original host, was devastated by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906. Despite this, the Games were a huge success, with the White City Stadium constructed especially for the events and events taking place over a six month period. Team GB dominated the medal table in 1908, winning 145 medals from 110 events, eclipsing the second placed USA by nearly 100 medals.

One of Team GB’s 56 gold medal successes came in the polo event, in which a team from Roehampton defeated an all-Ireland team 8-1.

The BOA is offering View London users five pairs of tickets to watch some top-class polo action. To be in with a chance of winning, simply answer the question below. If you’d prefer not to leave your luck to chance, you can purchase tickets from Guards Polo Club or by calling 01784 437797. Tickets are priced at £18 each.
