Fun, quirky and great for big groups, 1920’s stylish exterior pulls you in, and its warm, vibrant atmosphere keeps you there all night.

The Venue
Only a few minutes from Barbican and Farringdon tube stations, 1920 is easy to get to but still hidden enough to feel a bit special and off the beaten track. There are plenty of tables outside for summertime drinking, and inside on the ground floor you’ll find comfy sofas, a funky mural and four pool tables. It feels clean and airy, and this is the place to hang out if you’re just after a drink and a chat with friends. If you fancy a more lively evening, head down the spiral staircase to the industrial-style bigger cocktail bar, complete with dance floor, DJ and padded bright red seats.

The Atmosphere
What with its tasty cocktails, comfy seats and enough eclectic music to get anyone's toes tapping, 1920 can get rather busy, mostly with 20-somethings wanting to relax with a game of pool or to strut their stuff on the small dance floor downstairs. It's perfect for a birthday party, with plenty of large tables and secluded areas, and the DJ won't drown out conversation. But you'll want to reserve in advance if you're going with a big group. Come early evening, there's still a vibrant atmosphere but, in that gap between after work drinkers and 'out for the night' party animals, you'll have plenty of space to move/sit/play pool, and you won't have to queue at the bar.

The Food
If you like burgers, you’ll be in your element. 1920’s tasty and generously-sized bespoke burgers come with salad, mayonnaise and delicious potato wedges, and there are loads to choose from. Try a surf’n’turf burger, complete with whole tail Scottish scampi for £9.25, or a chicken burger with goats’ cheese and red pepper for £7.50. Vegetarians can opt for a spicy bean burger or (for pescetarians) a salmon brochette burger.

The Drink
1920 serves up a large list of drinks, although you might be pushed to find your favourite cocktail on the menu. Instead, you’ll find imaginatively named blends like Rum and Bass, Cuban Thunder and Southern Rock Star, all for £7. Ask the staff for recommendations, they’re happy to tell which ones they like best. For wine lovers, a small glass of chenin blanc or shiraz is £3.80, with a small rioja or pinot grigio on offer for £4.50.

The Last Word
A funky cocktail bar that doesn’t take itself too seriously, 1920 has certainly been designed with a good night out in mind.
