The ViewLondon Review
A chilled out Sunday with a bit of up-beat jazz in the evening or a night out to enjoy a drink and food with some friends. This wine bar is a pleasant all-rounder that will fit the bill. The VenueThis branch of All Bar One is a sophisticated wine bar bang in the middle of the chic Chiswick High road, a short walk from the tube and right between all the shops and restaurants. The spacious room has a long strip of bar down the side, displaying all types of wines and Champagnes on shelves up to 9 feet high. There is an abundance of seating from high stools to leather booths and benches to perch on, including tables and chairs at the entrance. Hanging from the tall ceilings are retro lamps that dangle low and you’ll notice huge modern paintings about the place, too. The walls are plastered with blackboards, upon which is the food and wine menus so you can’t miss what’s on offer.
The AtmosphereAll Bar One is really chilled out and attracts a modern and relatively young crowd - mainly professionals and young couples. Considering the prestige of the area, the clientele are friendly and welcoming, so you’re unlikely to feel out of place. The bar staff are helpful, although service can be a bit slow on a busy night. If you choose to have lunch or early dinner then they are attentive and approachable and certainly know what they’re doing and able to advise you on the menu.
The music is lively in the evenings, playing pop and charts music and the bar gets noisy but never overcrowded. If you’re there for lunch the music blends into the background so won’t drown out your conversations. An added bonus – on Sunday evenings a live jazz band plays.
The FoodThe menu at All Bar One is varied with a range of world tapas and main courses such as burgers with chips, salads and big plates and sandwiches. The tapas could count as a starter or you could simply order a selection as a main which would be sure to fill you up, too! Some of the best tapas options include the pan fried Atlantic scallops, which are simply divine with an interesting base of mushy peas and crispy Parma ham - the tastes work really well together, infusing in mouthwatering ways. The spicy meatballs, covered in a pepper and tomato salsa with a hint of oregano, tastes quite sharp but is smoothed by the chunky parmesan sprinkled on-top. The chargrilled garlic mushrooms, presented as a kebab and bedded on rocket salad, is moist and are really juicy.
As far as mains go, the bacon and guacamole burger comes with a massive portion of chips is ideal for the chip over. The burger is handmade and mixed with spices and herbs, the guacamole adding moisture. The 10oz Gloucestershire rib eye steak served with roasted tomatoes and crispy fries is really juicy and seasoned perfectly.
There are very few desserts on offer, however, what’s on offer is delicious. The Belgian waffles covered in maple syrup with whipped cream is served warm and fresh and is not sticky nor too sweet on the pallet. On Sundays, a large roast is available, this serves a minimum of four people and offers a whole roast chicken with all the trimmings at a reasonable price.
The DrinkAs a wine bar, All Bar One offers up a wide selection of reds, whites and roses can be bought as a bottle or a glass. These are selected from Spain, Argentina, South Africa and France amongst other countries and vary in price. Champagne, beers and sprits are also available.
The Last WordAn average effortless wine bar, with a cool and easy going atmosphere and plenty of choice of delicious tapas and wines for a good feed
