Outstanding food, premium spirits and Champagne, and a door policy that keeps almost everyone out, Almada is shrouded in secrecy and that makes it all the better for the few of you that do make it through the door.

The Venue
Located underneath the fabulous Automat, Almada is located close to Green Park tube and is accessed via entrances on either Berkeley Street or Dover Street. Often secretively referred to by its address rather than its name, once you’ve managed to make it through the door you’ll find a big, open venue with dark wooden furniture, dim yellow lighting and an 1930s American wood-panelled library feel.

The Atmosphere
Nobody gets into Almada unless invited to a private party being held here or accompanying one of the friends of the club. Not yet open to members, most nights here are only open to a select few who bring friends here with them. This has attracted stars who wish to entertain in private, so everyone from Princess Beatrice to George Clooney and Karen Millen have held private functions here. More often than not though, the atmosphere is quiet, cosy and intimate with more staff than guests, milling around ready to meet your every need as they have so little else to do.

The Food
Mirroring the American menu of parent venue Automat, a full selection of mouthwatering steaks, divine burgers and vast racks of lamb dominate the food choices, although there’s baked cod and pasta dishes for the less bloodthirsty. Prices range from £18-£30 for main courses, with starters and desserts coming in at around a tenner each. It’s not cheap, but it professes to be the best American eating house in town.

The Drink
Almada offers a long and varied wine list of around 100 reds, whites and pinks, with prices between £16-£200 a bottle. The staff will also delight in taking the time to make you a cocktail (they have plenty of time to get it right as you’re not fighting for their attention like in busier venues), although almost everyone here seems to drink Champagne - and plenty of it. One of their vintage Dom Perignons is the one to order, if you can afford any of them.

The Last Word
Almada is what so many clubs claim to be, but so few are – exclusive. You can find more happening music, food that equals theirs in quality, and drinks that are cheaper, but then you’d have to share the experience and that’s what makes this club worth it.
