Very poor bar. Service is appalling. Having used to have enjoyed going there, the way I was treated last night means I will not be returning.
There are plenty of other good places to go in the area - use these instead.
Great little bar to grab some drinks and catch up with friends. We went for some after work drinks on Tuesday and ended up staying the whole night. There’s a great atmosphere and some comfy sofas to crash out on in the basement. The little tapas dishes were a great touch too. We ordered a couple to share whilst we were sipping on our cocktails and ended up ordering a couple more. We’ll definitely be coming back soon. Maybe we’ll try a Friday night next time.
I used to really like Alphabet Bar with its informal air, mismatching furniture, comfy sofas and slightly gloomy homeliness. I also liked the album cover display along one wall. So when I walked in today I was disappointed to find it's had a makeover that's removed pretty much all its character and made it look like a lot of other bland bars. No album covers, smart matching chairs and tables arrayed evenly, no comfy sofas. We glimpsed something sofa-shaped downstairs but were told that area was closed. We had an overpriced quite nice cocktail and left. Perhaps they felt the need for a change, and maybe they decided this new look would attract more custom. I do understand they have a business to run and have to make decisions to help that. There may well be many people who prefer it as it is now. I think the homogenised makeover is a real pity though, and shan't return.
I went in with some friends after wondering around shopping at Carnaby Street. I really like the graffiti really adds to the space. Prices seemed reasonable for the area-actually cheaper than most. Liked that you could get draft and cocktails in the same place, my friend also said wine was good. Good aray of food-really like the skinny fries! Cool place to hang out if you want some thing more than a pub but don't want to go somewhere snooty!
I went today to the Alphabet bar for a coffee as i needed a place where i could seat and use a wi-fi connection. I went to several places first but all where very packed and this one as usual was empty. I ordered a double espresso to the two guys at the counter, the one at the till saying out loud "one double espresso....... 4 pounds!"
As i was not sure to have heard properly i repeated " 4 pounds?" and he answered " yes £4 please". I was quite shocked and knew it had to be wrong, but anyway i paid and went to seat at a table. Once there i grabbed a menu and looked for the actual price which was £2.40.
Once the guy come with my coffee, i ask him why I've had to pay £4 when the price was £2.40. The guy look at me blank and start saying "that's a good question, i don't know.... we're a cocktail bar we don't really do coffee, i'll get you your change." he came back with the change mentioning this wasn't normally happening....
We went in there and were the first people in there, the waiter was great.
Me and my boyfriend both had the "zombie" cocktail to start, after he recommended it.
Takes quite a while to make each cocktail but that's half the fun.
Really good, he said after 3 of them you'll be off your head, and just after one i think he would be right.
He gave us the first two cocktails for free which was nice, and soon the place started filling up.
Cocktails were £6.50 each but well worth it.
However the champagne cocktails weren't all that.
I really liked this unusual and quirky bar. The cocktail selection is interesting and quite extensive. Its competitively priced and they offer table service even when its really busy with none of that extra service charge you feel obliged to pay on top of your expected bill.
One thing i must say is that the food menu was a lovely surprise. I had a wonderful chicken and gorgonzola salad with cider dressing and apples. There burgers are also excellent and are homemade so you can taste the difference. The menu is different to that posted on the website and much more hearty and tasty with better prices.
On the whole i really liked this bar and enjoyed the relaxed and fun atmosphere much improved since my last visit a year ago.
Quite a varied crowd. Good drinks. Loved the food, plenty of variety and pretty good value for money
I was a bit worried after reading previous reviews of Alphabet, but went for a works night out, and we all absolutely loved it! Quite a busy venue, but this added to the atmosphere of the bar!!
We will be returning!
I went to Alphabet Bar with some friends for drinks and had an amazing time. It is a really relaxed bar with great staff and well made different cocktails. I wish Alphabet Bar stayed open later. I bagged some old comfy sofas in the basement and it was like a home from home. I'll be back.
The Alphabet Bar clearly was once fashionable, but you get a strong sense that everyone has left to go on to a hotter venue and you've just missed the boat. The tired interior and lack of atmosphere on a Friday night at The Alphabet Bar makes it a very disappointing drinking hole.
Alphabet Bar isn't as busy as it used to be on a Saturday, and so it's not uber cool anymore. But it's a nice little bar, and if you get a seat then you can happily stay all night. Alphabet Bar is a "meet me for a drink" place not a "party all night" place. And if you get the barmen on a good night, then they're very fun!
The clientelle at Alphabet Bar are cliquey and make you feel out of place plus the decor and lighting needs updating. Staff at Alphabet bar were unattentive and need a wider range of beers.
I fail to see why Alphabet Bar is listed in the top ten bars in Soho?
Alphabet Bar's not bad, although if you're clearly not a regular you get a few dirty looks from the cliquey crowd. Alphabet need to serve a better range of beers.
Alphabet Bar is full of mind numbingly boring people, completely up their own. The barstaff generally treat the average customer with the sort of contempt once deemed the right of the aristocracy, 'Err hello your working in a bar mate, now give me a beer'...'no you don't deserve a tip for taking the top off my overpriced beer'.
The music at the Alphabet Bar isn't too bad apart from that, unless you enjoy being ripped off for your beer or your company is paying for it, I don't see the point.
I like the worn chilled attitude free Alphabet Bar for a drink with friends and the food at lunchtime, a relaxed place in the madness of Soho, friendly staff, a home in town - but the loos need a lick of paint. A bit of a cuddle rug for adults.
A very good little spot to head for some after works drinks. True, it's a little over-populated by braying media tossers, but that's true of anywhere in Soho. Whilst it's not that cheap it is a great spot to sit and enjoy winding down in a relaxed atmosphere any day of the week.
