This Irish pub deserves a bad reputation. Unfriendly staff and the wrong crowd ruin a venue that could easily be nicely welcoming.

The Venue
The reason Angies III has any customers at all is because it's one of two pubs open in an area that's very dark and deserted at night. The venue itself is actually quite nice; or at least it would be with a different atmosphere. This long and dark pub is set into a horseshoe-shaped room around a central bar. Painted in white with black wooden beams across the ceiling, it has a nice old-time atmosphere emphasised by tall chairs around the bar. The furniture seems old but this does not detract from the potential of the venue, sadly unfulfilled.

Not even its Irish nature is properly declared: on the contrary, it is far from evident and the pub just looks like an old and unadvisable drinking hole for boozy locals.

The Atmosphere
The atmosphere is the real down point of Angies III: it deserves better punters and better staff. The crowd is entirely comprised of locals - young and old - coming down with the sole purpose of drinking too much. At the bar, you can be served by scornful teenage girls not clued in on what customer service means and at times are plainly rude.

The venue per se is not bad and, with a different atmosphere, the pool table and mini football would create nice interaction between the customers.

The Drink
Nothing out of the ordinary is on offer. Fosters and Stella are bestsellers within the draughts together with Guinness Extra Cold and Carlsberg Export. The only peculiarity is Tetleys Smooth Flow on draught. The good news, and the reason Angies III is popular with the residents, is that the prices are low – really low. No bottle or draught reaches £3: the first are £1.70-£2.90 and the latter are as cheap as £2.50-£2.80.

The Last Word
Five minutes away from the tube station you have better places for a pint; it may not be as unpretentious and cheap as at Angies III but at least the service and drinking options will be much better.
