Offering an eclectic, alternative night out in Kings Cross with cabaret, burlesque, comedy, live bands and underground DJs. Only time will tell whether it works, but it's certainly a unique idea.

The Venue
Sat next to Laurence Malice's unique Egg nightclub on York Way, near Kings Cross (although arguably quite a walk and worth taking advantage of the free shuttle bus that runs from the American Car Wash down the road), Apothecary is the newest – and arguably most unique – part of what's almost become a dancing complex.

Apothecary may share the building with Egg, but it has its own separate entrance on Vale Royal and whereas Egg is full of hardcore dancers clamouring for a night of house tunes, this bar is designed to cater for those wanting something a bit different. You've got pub-style surroundings, with a long bar (made from an antique restored apothecary table - hence the name) and a small stage for live acts – think burlesque or caberet – and an outdoor area complete with its own bar, with a grass section and those heaters that are essential all year round when you're clubbing in a city with weather as unpredictable as London.

The Atmosphere
Attempting to draw in people who wouldn't usually come to Egg, Apothecary has a relaxed vibe about it - reinforced by the pub decor and vibe. The bar is aiming to attract a different type of clientele after something a bit different - including the older market, appealing to those trying to find an alternative night out in the area (although, due to its location and attachment to Egg, it's hard to tell how many random punters it will pull in). Like its neighbouring venue, Apothecary is very relaxed and unpretentious – you don't have to dress to impress to have a good night here. That said, if you attend on a burlesque or cabaret night then getting into the swing of things with a bit of dressing up is encouraged.

The Music
Apothecary is all about offering something a bit different. Expect the alternative scene, offering everything from burlesque and cabaret to comedy nights, live and unsigned bands and underground DJs. Certainly a pleasant break from the norm for clubland.

The Last Word
One-off and random – Apothecary proves that anything goes when it comes to London’s nightlife.
