I left Ayoush feeling like I'd been mugged and left standing in the cold naked. The food was terrible. The Meze for two consisted of a couple of breaded chicken strips, two dolmades, two feta cheese pastries and loads of bread with some watery dips. I even asked the Ayoush waiter when the next course was coming! Never again.
Ayoush delivered possibly the worst meal I have ever had! The food is absolutely rubbish and you definitely do not see the return for your money on either the mezze nor the set menu (which is basically the mezze with a plate of soggy cous-cous and a dried cake thing as desert).
The Ayoush staff are pushy, and they did argue for their 12.5% discretionary service charge which we were definitely not paying. There is simply no quality to the meal, which is why I think they put you in a dark pokey alcove so you can't see what your eating!
I visited Ayoush with a mixed group of friends and we had a fabulous time partying in the downstairs. We had a cosy booth all to ourselves, cocktails were flowing, danced away with the lush belly dancer. We opted for the Ayoush set menu, the service was tremendous.
How is this restaurant still in business? Apparently there are enough people in London who settle for mediocrity. The food at Ayoush is absolute rubbish and the service is only slightly better than the food. If their food was good, the prices would be fine, however, I felt like they should have paid me (a considerable sum) to eat the food at Ayoush.
Ayoush has a great atmosphere, especially if you're in a big group and up for dancing and generally having fun. However, the service is terrible, you have to repeatedly ask for things and after about an hour you might actually receive them. The quality of the food is adequate, but nothing special but Ayoush is also very over priced as the drinks are also very expensive. I would not recommend this restaurant and I would not go back there, it has atmosphere, but it is equally important to me to get good service and pay a fair amount for the quality of food received. Ayoush fails on service and value for money.
Ayoush is truly dreadful. I can safely say I have never eaten in such a terrible restaurant in my life. It took over half an hour to get our drinks on arrival and then about an hour before the starters appeared - soggy onion rings which seemed to be straight from the freezer.
We hoped that the main course would make up for it but I wouldn’t have been happy serving it to my dog. The lamb was dry and tough and my friend's chicken was revolting - there was no rice or vegetables, just a bit of dried pitta bread. Take my advice and avoid Ayoush at all costs!
Firstly Ayoush is only getting one star as you can't give no stars. Oh dear. This is the worst place I've ever been to. Firstly it takes an age to be served and when it comes you wish it hadn't.
Terrible food, warm beer and wine, miserable service and to top it off the ladies toilet was blocked! Need I go on? Just don't go to Ayoush.
Ayoush is dreadful. The food is bland and ridiculously overpriced (£12 for the one vegetarian main course which consists of couscous and boiled cabbage. Mmm) or, in the case of a friend's chicken tagine, undercooked. Plus the service is really pushy. The staff at Ayoush hang around you constantly and never leave you alone but also don't remember anything you've asked them (they kept coming back to check on the complicated order of four bottles of beer). We were sat under the speaker, which was playing very loud music. We asked if we could move or if they could turn it down a fraction - they turned it down but then said they 'couldn't promise it wouldn't go up later in the night'. We said that was fine - could we swap tables instead then? (There were plenty free.) He said, 'No, you'll be fine! Just get more drunk.' Hmmm. This might be the kind of place you want on a big night out when you don't care about the food being awful and you like a waiter constantly flirting with you, but avoid Ayoush if you just want dinner and a chat.
Fabulous!! The food was amazing and the staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. The maitre'd was my favourite of the bunch. He actually encouraged us to stay for an extra 2 hours after we finished our meal. The belly-dancer wasn't worth all the hype, but everyone got to join in the dancing and the cheesy DJ was great too. Overall I loved it. Ayoush is one place I will definitely revisit even though it was pretty pricey. Steer clear of the shisha!! It's best to go with a group of friends though because the booths are great. Definitely worth a visit. P.S. The bar-men are excellent.
Ayoush is just awful. The staff are rude, stroppy and unhelpful. If you want to get ripped off - go to Ayoush.
I went to Ayoush last weekend with a large group of friends and we were served bad quality food which should have been enough for half the number of people. The service was really bad. We complained and they just argued with us which totally ruined the evening.
Appalling. The worst eating experience that I've ever had in London.
The food was poor, and presented in miserly portions (one half plate of each of the Mezze, between 14 people). The lamb tagine was gloopy lukewarm stew. Drinks had to be ordered an average of three times before they arrived. When the food finally arrived, the order was incorrect but rather than change the dishes with good grace, the staff argued with us telling us that we had ordered incorrectly.
Overall, a bill for nearly £50 for bad food with poor service, and coming out at the end of the night still feeling hungry. If I could give it no stars at all then I would...
Well. I had anticipated a great evening at Ayoush.
What I received was, decently prepared food, good hummus, relatively inexpensive drinks, bland and flavorless hookah, good service from the beautiful Italian waitress, and the worst manager/owner I have ever seen in my entire life.
We entered the restaurant at a slow period, on a Sunday night, when you would expect the most personal attention from the owner because his responsibilities with other customers are zilch due to the fact that we were 2 of maybe 10 people in the restaurant.
We wanted to move to another table, a slightly more comfortable table in the corner. We politely asked our waitress who then went and asked the manager. Without a word, the manager took a reserved sign from the desk, and put it on the table. Not a single 'sorry or we have someone coming in, or even a rude you cannot sit here'.
The entire night, he spent pacing around the restaurant waiting for us to leave. I don't know how business is always done in London, but if you want to stay afloat, you need to be nice to your clients. In fact the words he said most to us the entire night were "Thank you and goodbye". Not to mention the fact that someone in the restaurant screwed up splitting the check and double charged one of our cards.
My advice to you Londoners is, if you wish to come to a good hookah lounge, go to Al Dar Cafe, not Ayoush. If you don't mind rude people and a generally discomforting atmosphere with a overly pompous and haughty manager, than Ayoush is the place for you.
I had read reviews of Ayoush that had been very positive on this and other sites and was really looking forward to eating there. We'd booked a table for a colleague's leaving party and from the information we had it seemed like an ideal venue. Granted, we went at lunch time when there was only one other table taken and I imagine it has (some) atmosphere in the evening. Having grown up in the Middle East and enjoyed the experience of Levant and Momo's in London I was expecting more of the same. Sadly, no. The service was terrible but had the food been good then I'd have gone back. But it wasn't and outside of Havana and my senile grandmothers cooking this has to be the blandest most uninventive food I'd ever eaten in London. The other table had a similar experience and I guess there was some comedy value in it all. Of the seven people at our table only one finished their meal. Never, ever ever eat at this resteraunt unless you go for the pure comedy value!
What a brilliant evening - hookah pipes, top food and a boogie in the basement bar.
Ayoush is an excellent place to start a night out. This is a very good restaurant if you are in large groups. We went here for the start of a stag night with 10 guys and got a cave downstairs. The food was good, nothing fancy, but the atmosphere and aura of the place was excellent. Worth a visit!
