I had dinner yesterday in Babalou. It is in the crypt of a church in Brixton, interesting place, Moroccan looking somehow. The prices are incredibly low. less than 15 pounds for a dinner and wine.
I was really positively impressed, I ate an amazing sweet and sower chicken, vegetables rise and tandoori chicken. The service was pleasant, the guy was really smiley and nice. Even their red wine is really good! My boyfriend enjoyed the night and food as well
I left a big tip because I though the value of that dinner was so much higher than the bill. I'll definitely go again.

If you are planning to have a party there, don't do it!
I organised a party there last week and was trully dissapointed. I spoke to the manager a couple of weeks before so they knew I was coming with a bunch of people around 8.30pm. As we were going to be a large group turning up early, the Manager agreed me we did not have to pay and I informed accordingly to all my guests. When I arrived there at 8pm I was in shock to see that nothing was done. The place was a mess, tables and chairs were all over the place, there was no barman (so we could not have a drink), there was no music and the toilets were dirty. One of them even had sick in it. It was a total caos. Three of my guests already had turned up. We waited for about 30 minutes for the barman to show up (so we could not have a drink until then) and there was no music. Music started at about 9.40pm. Shocking!. When all my guests turned up they started playing with the lights, turning them up and then down. It was a joke! When all my guests arrived I order a couple of platters. As soon as I ordered the food I saw another pair of platters coming out. There was another party there, so it was obvious that it was for them and not for us. The barman and the cook goot really confused (do not know why) and left the two platters get cold by the bar. 15 minutes later, the barman wanted me to take them to my guests and I refused. When we started to enjoy the night (music was playing, food was out, the lighting was nice) I got told that we all had to pay £5 if we wanted to stay. If not, we had to leave. I was so angry! I got promissed we didn't had to pay by the Manager, and now, after all the mess, we were asked to pay!. We decided to leave. I just couldn't take it any more.

I went there a couple of times with my friends and I always had a great time. I got to know most of the staff there and they are really friendly and nice. The bar opens around or after 10pm so I m not surprised that you found the place how it was. So far I m quite satisfied with the services, last time I ordered an Indian food and I needed to wait for it a bit longer than the others but they apologised and invited me for a starter on the menu. The food was great too. Loved it!!
I like the place and I recommend it!! Especially on Fridays when the live music is on! So amazing !!;))))

So glad to see a genuine review with regards to Babalou. This place is awful. The barman was ignorant and rude, when we turned up for a pre-booked meal we were left hanging in the entrance lobby the managwer wandered off presumably to show us to our seat, we followed only to find he was going over to turn the music up. He looked confused when i asked where we were sitting and told us to sit anywhere. I went back to my partner and we found a seat. the place was empty although we were assured that it was always busy for eating around 8:30pm. We had to go up to the bar to order a drink. Think there is a confusion between being a nightclub and being a resturant. We WENT to Babalou the resturant not the nightclub i must point out. We ordered a sharing platter consisting of 5 starters. When the food arrived it was presented on a brass platter, however the food was so saturated in grease as everything had been through the deep fryer that it had to be served up on two layers of kitchen towel which was most un appertizing however highlighted the amount of grease present as the kitchen towel was saturated in grease.
Unpreturbed, we attempted to eat from the platter, The meat dishes were extremely hard, the grilled dumplings, that were in fact deep fried dumplings were greasy and hard, the prawn toast looked worse than you might get from the budget range from any of the local supermarket chains. After several attempts we asked to speak to the manager he commented that the 'food looked ok' i asked him to try it, he replied 'it is ok' i then asked to speak to the chief hoping to get get further with him as he, i assumed had some level of culinary expertise. When 'the chief' came out of the kitchen, instead of listening, he started off by defending the stuff presented on the platter as' this is how it is meant to be' instead of taking time to listen to the remarks made by my girlfriend and i. The food we had paid for was bought as part of a deal offered by KGB Deals. The chief

Babalou is a great venue situated in the crypt of a Church offering a differnent venue for people to meet, eat, drink and dance the night away!

Friday nights are great with 2-4-1 on drinks at the bar, the sound system rocks so we stayed till the early hours dancing to the best house music. A great crowd and a great vibe, we will certainly be back for more!

We went to Babalou recently and loved it. The club is very decieving from the outside. The venue was clean.

Funky House tunes being played. Everyone at Babalou was friendly and drink prices were reasonable. Just wish the club's website was a bit more informative!

Babalou ticked every box for a large group of people and met all needs. The food was great and very innovative. Babalou was a refreshing change with loads of seating and a wide choice of drinks available, all the latest brands of spirits.

The music kept us at Babalou until 5.30am so it must have been good!

I had a great romantic meal at Babalou. Pity the guy I was with wasn't as nice as the Babalou venue itself!

Babalou is a very grown up venue, I felt a little out of place I have to say. But what Babalou is great at is showing everyone an excellent time.
