Semplice, meaning simple in Italian, describes the kind of stylish minimalism that Bar Trattoria does very well.

The Venue
Bar Trattoria Semplice, tucked quietly away on a side street between bustling Oxford Street and Bond Street, is more Scandinavian looking than Italian. The interior is clad in simple blonde woods with sleek lines and bold touches of red in the chandeliers and candles that are scattered all around the place. The bar area can be found just past the main door surrounded by an L-shaped seating area with a restaurant and a private dining area off to the side. It does feel slightly cold but the red touches do warm things up a little. The bar itself is very attractive and clean looking.

The Atmosphere
The staff at Bar Trattoria Semplice are authentically Italian and are eager to create a positive drinking and dining experience. As a spin-off to the Ristorante Semplice, it attracts a clientele who perhaps know more of its sister restaurant. Its location is not one you would just stumble across, so the professional-looking clientele have probably sought it out.

The Food
Without asking, you’ll be brought free bruschetta with very fresh tomatoes and a crumpled brown paper bag filled with delicious chips – crisp with just the right amount of salt. There is a bar menu at Bar Trattoria Semplice with things like mixed salumi and pasta e fagioli soup. Frankly, the prices are a bit high on the bar menu – the trattoria menu, with pastas, fish, meat dishes and daily specials, actually seems to offer better value.

The Drink
The drinks menu at Bar Trattoria Semplice leans heavily towards cocktails, divided into various categories like aperitivi, semplice tall, short and after dinner. This helps to narrow down the playing field. The wines are very interesting; all Italian and beautifully served in large glasses. Virgin cocktails come overflowing with fruit and feel far from a second-best choice. Sparkling wines are also featured and are a nice change. Prices are what you expect for Mayfair and won’t help the pain in your wallet if you’re feeling the crunch.

The Last Word
For high quality fresh food and drink, Bar Trattoria Semplice is an easygoing Italian place to drop into for a glass of wine and some Italian meats or cheeses when out for the day on Bond Street.
